_______ Still Sounds Good On The Radio

Some have suggested that it's time to put the Stiffs thread on DNR because it's been on life support for a while. Hard to argue the point. The other day while listening to the radio I heard a great song that was at least 40 years old but sounded great.

So.... how about a thread dedicated to songs we still enjoy hearing on the radio. Songs you've heard at least three hundred times but still work for you, still have that magic, still keep you listening rather than reaching for the scan button or popping in a CD or plugging in your iPlod.

It may turn out that some of the favorite stiffs will show up in this thread, but it would surprise me not the least if posters submitted a few of the "250 best testing songs," as well as album cuts. Any/every format, one song per post? If that's good with you.

It may be overplayed by every Oldies-Classic Hits-AC station in 12 countries, but... "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers still sounds good on the radio.

Still celebrating for the Sabres I see...with a Pabst in both hands....However the creative juices are cognicent! ;D

Interesting Idea...it could be the latest version of Whitburn! Or the great one's forgotten by some!!

Temptation Eyes...Grass Routes (as opposed to pronouncticating ruuts)

"Feelin' Alright" by Joe Cocker could keep me sitting in the parking lot until it's over. Imagine a shotgun jingle smacked against that tasty piano intro. Then, the background vocalists, and of course the amazing soul and energy of Joe's performance. Still phenomenal.

Nick Seneca

The greatest rock song ever.

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", the Stones, summer of '65 but punches just as hard as it did 45 years ago.

"Respect" by Aretha Franklin
"Go All The Way" by The Raspberries
"Brass In Pocket" by The Pretenders (if indeed you do hear it!)

If there’s one song for which I’ll never hit “scan” and always crank up ’til the house shakes (I could never live in an apartment), it’s:

Dire Straits – “Money For Nothing”

Honorable mention to:
Don Henley – “The Boys of Summer”
The Who – “Eminence Front” and “Magic Bus”
Red Rider – “Lunatic Fringe”

Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
Derek & The Dominos - "Layla"
Greg Kihn Band - "The Breakup Song"
Lenny Kravitz - "Fly Away" (long version only)

And since my current format is country, a few country titles:
Brooks & Dunn - "Ain't Nothing 'Bout You" (must play single, it's pitched up from album version)
Tim McGraw - "Please Remember Me", "Indian Outlaw"
Rhett Akins - "That Ain't My Truck"

"One Of These Nights" -Eagles.

Also a good analog song to check out a station's processing. The intro has that low end and guitar tick with the big impact guitar coming in at :18. The bridge kicks in with a screaming mid-high guitar and song has superb vocals.

BTW, never talk it up past the :18 mark ;)

These 4 have the greatest guitar riffs and will never get enough airplay to suit me:

Too Much Ain't Enough - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Station Man - Fleetwood Mac (Jeremey Spencer era)
Wasn't Born to Follow - The Byrds
Ride the River - J.J. Cale & Eric Clapton

Not to interfere with the thread....I am just laughing to hard to not reply!! ;D

It is less than one page, Radnowski had a resonable request for ONE SONG PER POST. (That sounded like a great plan)

Less that 2 pages in and the postings contain multiples!!!! We can tell who doesn't follow the threads!! ::)

Can we keep it going anyway? That's all!! :-\

BTW - one per post: LOL

As hokey, and 70's, and "stiff', and whatever you want to call it....

Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis" always sounds good on the radio......

Carry on...that's all

As usual, I will go off the board...

"Hey Cinderella" by The Jazzabels.

Thanks to Lee "North Coast" Rust for "introducing" us to them (other of their tunes were played on the air, but that would break the "one cut" rule for this thread). We went to a number of their live shows around these parts after hearing them on 105.9.

Any of ya'll in Buffalo who knows what happened to The Jazzabels, lease let us know. They are easily our favorite local act that should have been much bigger than they were.
