This came up on boston-radio-interest mailing list when talking about WHRB: Yes, there are some _commercial_ college-run stations out there, and several in New
England:
WBTN 1370 Bennington, VT was "gifted" to Southern VT college a few years back.
They run AC/oldies, Bill O'Reilly (IIRC), the Red Sox, talk shows, and so on.
When I was driving through the area they were doing some kind of a remote (via
cellphone) from an apple farm and the host sounded like a college student
Dartmouth has WDCR 1340 and WFRD 99.3
Quinnipiac down in CT has WQUN 1220 withs standards, Red Sox, etc.
Yale has an AM and FM (WYBC 1340 and 94.3)
Brown owns part or all of WBRU; Harvard has WHRB etc
