A 4:00 Action News

Wouldn't be surprising as ch6 will probably be gaining more local time in the coming years anyway with ABC probably ending one of it soaps soon (Woed is One Life to Live could be axed if its ratings didn't improve).

Don't really like Brian Taff as an anchor however. Don't know why. may be its the way he talks?

I think it's likely. But, ABC will likely commit to something for both WABC and WPVI, and some of its other stations elsewhere also, so they'd likely put something new on the daytime lineup also, and not just local programming (news).

That said, they could move all the soaps one hour earlier, run something new at 3pm, and then a 4pm newscast. However, the Action News at Noon, with Millionaire, is likely #1, so I'm not sure they'd tinker with their noon hour. KYW and WCAU can afford to play around with it, because they aren't #1. Maybe OOL moves to AM (just like Guiding Light) before eventually ABC cancelling it.

I also suspect KYW would likely move Dr.Phil to 4pm and run news at 5.

They indeed can't, as a practical matter, move the soaps, nor do they need to. With WLS already out of play for a syndicated replacement for Oprah, the O&O station group may well not place a block purchase if news is looking to be the better financial move.

As for anchors, I'd like to see Sarah Bloomquist get more anchor time, though that would take her off the morning reporting beat. If that move is off the table, Erin O'Hearn would easliy be enough to get me to tune in as often as my schedule allowed.

Why yes it is. Infact pvi is probably one of the few stations in the country that can claim to be #1 every hr excluding primetime (and they probably win that most nights too) m-f 5:00AM till midnight.

Not sure of Jimmy Kimmel beats Leno and/or Letterman however.

Better Solution: Drop all over-the-air broadcast networks immediately, let the companies begin narrowcasting via digital delivery on multiple platforms including the traditional TV screen, online, mobile and through 2-way interactive social media, and produce content that people can decide when and if they want to consume/pay for, NOT the other way around. Educate sales dept's on how to drive revenue packages with this method of transmitting information. I know I'm ahead of the curve in Aug. 2010, but the day will come this decade no matter what the "experts" say. Sorry, but broadcast TV and other common forms of traditional media are dinosaurs on the way to extinction.

And what's stopping companies from doing precisely that now?

Nothing. ::) Content is already available on demand on multiple platforms. Though I'm sure the entire world is missing something you're not when it comes to merely "educating" sales forces, which will magically, in one grand swoop, solve the problems of monetizing those platforms in a way that would enable the content to be assembled in the first place. But sure, in the meantime, let's stop taking in the cash that's on the table to be made, because that's a logical business strategy.

Everything is on its way to extinction from the moment it comes into being. They just arrive at their final resting places at different times.

Could it? Possibly. Maybe a syndicated show would as well. A gamble either way--they just need to weigh the factors and decide which they think holds the better chance at a good return on investment. Five p.m. (heck, five a.m. for that matter) news once seemed strange, perhaps, but it became the norm. The audience is accustomed to 4 p.m. news, so they'd just be esablishing a presence where it's been shown to work elsewhere.

Ofcourse Action News at 4:00 would work, and it would be #1 too. Just putting the ch6 logo up for an hour would probably beat ch3 & 10. Lets face it, Action News is gonna be #1 until atleast Jim Gardner retires. After that then maybe another station can make a move to beat them. Same applies to MCTYW ending.

BTW, I would also think ch6 would also have some interest in starting a 10:00 newscast aswell to compete with Fox, CBS3 on the CW, & NBC10 on MYPhl17. However there obviously isn't many stations left for them to goto & air such a broadcast. I wonder does anyone know when the current contract nbc10 has with ch17 runs out? Perhaps ch6 could make a move to take over that. I'm sure ch17 would love to have the powerhouse of Action News at 10 over nbc10. Plus it would allow ch6 to try a different music package for the first time.

Channel 6 could do a 10pm newscast on WPVI-DT2, Channel 6-2. They just need to down convert the channel to SD for Comcast and Verizon SD boxes and mostly every cable customer in the area has the channel. They used to rerun the 6pm news on this channel at 8pm. Action News at 10 would be better than LivWellTv. Haven't they started to put Union games on this channel when they can't clear them on Channel 6-1?

Would it have enough exposure going on 6-2? There are probably some households that still only get analog cable. Even the simplest DirecTV or Dish Network setup with local channels and their basic package wouldn't get 6-2.

17 however is a solid place, and probably the only place, and that's only if they switched. WTVE and WMCN are too insignificant, and WPPX is program controlled for ion. While the 17 heyday is long gone, 17 is adding Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage to its night schedule. If they could just build a daytime lineup that didn't revolve around 3 shows.

The LiveWellTv HD only thing is a nationwide problem as I've recently moved from Dover, DE to Menifee, CA and KABC's 7-2 on FiOS 467 gives the obligitory "This Set-Top Box does not support HD channels. To upgrade, please call (888) 553-1555"

I agree each local ABC affiliate should show a taped repeat of the latest news report, in 480p 16:9 but that's just me.
