A 9 Watt Blowtorch

I was in DFW yesterday and ended up being in all four of the primary counties and came across a new station I had not ever heard before: La Nueva 106.5.

Incredible signal! I was shocked to find out it was only 9 watts after hearing it in Tarrant, Denton, Collin and Dallas counties. Not only was it not a fading, distant signal, those mighty nine watts lit my radio up with reliable stops during nearly every scan. And while I did not detect that loud, smooth, major-market signature Omnia 11 processor sound in the audio, K293CM was just as loud or louder than the others thanks to the modulation limiter (or lack thereof)!

Here is a link to the station on FCC Data, but don't let that small contour circle fool you, this thing gets out!

If you are in the DFW market, punch it in next time you are in the car and reply here with where you heard it...

It looks like they broadcast from Cedar Hill, in which case you will get better coverage at higher elevations. Cool catches!

I can pick it up in my house here in Ft. Worth.

Maybe they can be related to some of the operators discussed previously (overpowered transmitters/nondirectional antennas at directional sites) in the Houston area.

Sound decent in Southern Dallas County

Based on the owner, I highly doubt it is running authorized ERP.
