Do any of the locals have plans for providing local programming to the satellite stations? Can you make money being on the bird, like directv or dish network do with 3,5, and 9? You have to think about the fact that Sirius and XM will be looking for programming too.<P ID="signature">______________

I think when broadband hits cars it will change the whole landscape. Satellite could be a non-issue at that point.
 
it will certainly make an fm signal sound much better. Thats what FM will do in the end, or digital radio. Satellite will still be there, we havent seen the effects of Stern moving yet. A lot of people will pay for no commercials and cable saturation is what now. 50%? Thats a lot of pink slips in tv. Sorry, but you were warned to get a real job. Let's see, we now have 100+ channels on cable. Before, we had what, 3 or 4 channels?

What that means is that we need content to fill 100+ cable channels. Of course, only a half-dozen or so have any local origination, and locally-produced programming has been cut back because of the amount of special-interest programming on cable. Even the local news shows are doing it with fewer people because of computers and automation.

But, overall, there are now MORE jobs in the industry than there were back in the "Good Old Days". Equipment is so much less expensive that talented people can afford to start their own production companies without the support of a large studio or venture capitalist.

And, we haven't even scratched the surface of industrial videos, and video-for-Internet productions.

The fact is that there is FAR more video produced now than ever before.

Of course, the untalented and uninspired will still end up working for the Clown or the King, spinning MP3's at local watering holes, or pretending to run a web-based "radio" station. Good Luck with that.

That was quite the long winded defense dude/lady whomever. Tron. I fell asleep at the second sentence. No one is saying shut down, but big changes. Making audio content for video or movies is a good idea, so good luck. MORE jobs means MORE f#@k-ups in the pot as far as im concerned. It only takes one talented, mp3j with an internet station to gain hundreds of listeners and get tons of people in a night club at the same time (chubby). Its the moment you, and ten people that think they know more than me come walking in the door and start messing with everything that things slide downhill. Quit trying to be the boss of everyone! You and i have differant opinions but diversity is a good thing in radio. Im no head case, you can ask anyone i have worked with. Just telling you people that i think the stern show has already handled you, and that you deserved it. The last PD i worked for had a pistol for a boss but was missing one big thing, Integrity. You need to tell people whether its good or bad, otherwise you look like bin-laden.

The landscape has already changed for radio but the biggest change will be broadband and Satellite will be but one small competitor in the big picture. Think about the endless options that will be available with broadband. Content will move to the forefront as it should, the choices will be endless unlike cable with what 100+ channels and the truly creative will thrive. Radio is waaayyy too concerned with digital, that should have happened 15-20 years back to be a factor, it is just "AM Stereo" all over again. I'd focus on streaming and creating additional stations on the net, thats where the openings will come from in the future. I think the trick is to start now not wait until it gets here and try to play catch-up. Just wondering, how many new jobs has satellite created? Not being a smart ass but would really like to know as everything I read is even less than in conventional radio, anyone have any info on this? Happy New Year!

Yeah, too much herb kills the short-term memory, so something as long as 12 lines is probably more than I should expect you to comprehend.

Do you really expect us to take you seriously when you:

A) ...write such disjointed, rambling posts, and

B) admit that your attention span is only about 2 sentences long?

Don't bother answering. I'm sure you haven't made it this far in the post anyway.

Streaming is a definate. No Stations in syr are streaming! Popped up all over the country again but Syr for the games? Forget it. Multi-formats, streamed on the net is a good idea. Done right it could be set and rolling for anyone after broadband gets into cars. Your car radio will "buffer" before it has digital radio? Yes that is a hmmm.<P ID="signature">______________

Wrong, there are stations streaming in syracuse, the B country station is. Checked out some of the other websites, and Dog 105 is utilizing podcasting, and streaming soon.. curiousity made me check the other sites they all have some indication of streaming soon.
