A Bit of WGST Reality.....

Greetings....Let the beatings begin.

MY COMMENT: First of all, thanks for all the comments on my work. Considering that everything I have ever read here about WGST has been atrociously negative, it's nice to be considered equal to the pros I've been working with for the last 4 days.

MY CHALLENGE: For the rest of this thread, limit yourself to only the good things you have heard on WGST. Here....I'll start: Art "Madman" Mehring is a hoot! Jennifer Perry and Susan King, are superb Radio News Anchors. The station's imaging is first-rate. And, I've worked for Randall Bloomquist at two stations now, and they both sounded superb....See? That's not so tough.

MY COMMENT: Regarding the guy who called me a "blowhard"....First off, want to compare resumes? Of course, that will mean that you'll have to step out from behind that coward's cloak of an alias you wear....Which would actually be good! Because if I was rude enough for you to carry a torch about it from another market....FOR YEARS, you either deserve one hell of an apology....or some serious mental health screening. (I'm betting the latter....In fact, because of your alias, I'll also bet that you were some kind of poser, who's malarky I called you on.)

MY CHALLENGE: Hey alias kings....Tell us who you are, step into the light, and reap what you sow like men. (Can't do it, can you? No stones. Pity.) Look at it this way....If we all know who you are, maybe Randall will call one of YOU All-Star Broadcaster to fill in next time! That way, all us Talk Hacks you beat on every day, (who are actually working) will have a chance to learn something from the masters of the art!

MY COMMENT: In my first 4-day assignment on WGST, I spent 12 hours on the air. We discussed 12 topics, and helped WGST cover breaking news on the North Korean Missile Crisis. We took 84 callers. Since there about 20 minutes per hour of news, and spots, that works out to 8 total hours of Talk Radio programming with 10.4 calls per hour. For a Talk Show Host who's been on the air in Atlanta a total of 6 times since 1989....That doesn't seem to be so bad. (Especially since you geniuses can't even figure out if I was actually in town or not....Jeeze!)

MY CHALLENGE: Tell us all about the caller stats on your last 12 Talk topics.

In short, boys and girls....(girls in boy's bodies more likely)....Ask yourself privately if you really have any clue about what your talking about, and if you do....prove it. Publicly.

I'm waiting.

First of all, I have nothing against WGST. I don't listen to WGST on a regular basis.
But, it does seems to me that GST can't be doing all that bad considering how much it is
talked about here. Same goes for 99X.

Yep, it is confirmed. Boring in print and boring on the radio. You fit in perfectly with GST's lineup.

And what is this, 1940? Who uses the word "Hoot" anymore? Yowza Yowza Yowza...

As some of you know, I am not the biggest CC fan... but I must admit it blows me away to see all of the WGST bashing that goes on here. I do agree with Mr. Wells on one thing.... I'll bet most of the posts here would be a lot different if everyone had to use their real name. It's easy to call names and talk about how bad someone is when you get to put some silly name on your post and no one knows who you are. How about this... post all the negative you want... call names... criticize away... BUT then sign your REAL name so we all know just how credible your post is. Can't wait to see how many of you nay-sayers have the cajonies to do this. ;D

Something wrong with this picture......where a talk host spends hours and hours posting on this thing to a few select nincompoops. More evidence that GST is dead.

MY COMMENT: In my first 4-day assignment on WGST, I spent 12 hours on the air. We discussed 12 topics.

Maybe next time, if WGST gives you another audition, you can find a topic that will take hold and you won't have to jump from one topic to the next so frequently. I did notice that the subject matter you tried didn't seem to work, and you had to continually change the approach. I hope it works out better for you the next time. We all have our bad days. Good Luck.

I don't care about all the naysayers on this board. I have always loved WGST since I first started listening back in '89. I also enjoy WSB and WGKA. They all have something to offer and I probably listen to them equally.

Well, you asked us not to say anything negative so I'll hold back on your views on same sex marriage (let's just say this married hetero was about to start screaming at my radio).

Sorry Monk, I know how that feels....

Once I was listening to Tammy Bruce when she was a weekender on 64KFI. (That was when they were trying to put themselves on the map, and believed that upsetting people was entertainment.) Tammy went into this tirade about how to raise children, and was unbelievably wrong. It pissed me off so much, I pulled off the freeway to call.....Couldn't get through. The next Monday, I tried to call Al Brady Law at KABC to offer my services free of charge, just so long as I could just be on the air when she was. She got canned a few weeks later, and Al moved on at about that same time as well.

If you still want to vent, tell me how I got it wrong at [email protected].

Good Luck, and Take Care....

....Oh, and TalkRadioGuru? You're completely correct in calling yourself a nincompoop....If I were you, self-loathing would be my main hobby too.

(Really, that antique spew you threw about Quarter-Hour Maintenance will go down in history as one of world's most idiotically obvious statements.)

But truly, speak for yourself....There are people here with a clue.

Personally I can't say anything bad about WGST? Why? I'm outside the Perimeter and can't get the station during the day without static (which is annoying) so I don't even bother to try listening anymore. I know thigns have changed since those days but I used to consider WGST a bettter station than WSB when I could hear GST on the FM dial in the 90's. The station was especially good for "off hour" severe weather events when there was always someone at the Weather channel to break in. I have the greatest respect for Kirk over at WSB...but he can't be at the station 24/7. It's just not possible.

Anywho, I think that GST would score better if they went to FM, and ditched the piss-poor signal they have on AM.

The signal excuse is a load of crap. I work in Lawrenceville, well outside the perimeter, and I pick 640 up just fine during the day in my car, no problem. Now we all know night time is a different story.
I for one enjoyed Jon David while he was here. Kind of glad Jimmy Barron put his foot in his mouth (or blog). It was nice that J.D. complimented Jennifer Perry and Susan King, as they rarely are mentioned, although in my opinion are 2 of the finest news anchors in this city (that being said, WSB will probably hire then away next month) The Mad Man does a fine job as well with traffic.
Jon David, thanks, good luck, and you can come back anytime.

Comment: everything I have ever read about WGST here has been atriciously negative.

Challenge: go back and read the boards from 2 years ago. People have complemented WGST when they get things right ( the Braves aquisition, bringing in new local talent instead of Glenn Beck, dumping Dr Laura, etc ) but then slam them when they screw it up ( paying too much for the broadcast rights, putting on a bad local host, or a sit in rather then geting a GOOD local host, perhaps one already in house, losing existing local hosts to thier chief competitors, etc )

Comment: Who called me a blowhard?!? Why show yourself, you yeller bellied coward!! Let's break out the tape measures, if yer not scared!

Challenge: when called a blowhard, please don't react as such!

Comment: Look how I mastered the art of reading a clock and hitting the hard breaks! I'm topic driven and live and local!! NOBODY BEATS THE WIZ!!! And, if you think you can, your probably trapped in that body!!

Challenge: Ummmm, you know they did alot of studies about big, bad, hetero guys that always point the finger at the effiminate ones and call them names. I think the studues actually supported the notion that they were secretly in love with them!! Given that, maybe you would be a 'good fit' for Bloomquist and his ATL cluster****.

Did they really fly this guy in from Vegas? Whatever happened to 'what crappens in Vegas stays there? ":)

Truer words have never been written Guru. And by the way, I think Jon David did an excellent job maintaining Peterson's 1.3 share and 24th place rating in the market.

Karl....Nice butt-kiss!

Now to the reality...

And your ratings are.....?

And the format is....? (Was....?)

And the station is....? (Was....?)

And your real name is....? (Was....?)

Not in radio, but I do have a full time employment and don't have to depend on occasional fill in work. I guess your implication is if you aren't hosting a failing show like Peterson you have no right to critcize those who do.

Just for the record I thought you sounded better than Kimmer.

Who really cares about WGST? Well, Who? Its a lame station. The only good I can see is Braves on 96 rock.. Sounds great in Stereo! Denny radio is a good edition, just because its different than listening to Neil Boortz, and I have so much money, planes, Limo's, and Im rich and the rest of you arent. But, The Signal is CRAP. Get over it, move on and lets put GST on the map again. Kill Viva, the station that only makes more want to jump the border, and give WGST a Fm signal again. That would be nice.

Considering that Randall has destroyed ratings everywhere he's programmed, the audience didn't agree. But sucking up certainly can't hurt next time they need a sub.

You forgot to compliment Randy's main squeeze in the news dept. Not good.

Karl...Thanks for being honest about what you do.

That makes you a listener, and enhances your credibility to a degree. However, not being in radio means you have no idea how hard people like TalkRadioGuru stomps people to protect his sagging personal image. He's a complete punk. Try working for the guy before you add to his personal anti-talent crusade.

For the record, I'm the Program Director of FOXNews1280-KDOX, Las Vegas. Believe me, it's a full-time job.

As for "sucking up" to Randall...the simple case of the matter is that I'm a regular fill in on stations all over the country and I've gotten to hear, up close and personal, Talk Radio at the leading edge. Randall's stations sound just fine. As for getting ratings, he had a 3 and a half share 12+ in Market #8. And not only that, but WMAL was a real political force in that town.

Look...Check around on the web. Find a demonstrably better-sounding Talk station and post it here. It won't be easy.
