Do you think a blues station that plays Blues and popular Classic rock would work in Rode Island. I was thinking of a 102.7,99.7 or even Chris Dipaolas 96.7?
Your thoughts...............
I'm thinking of the South County area for the summer and the beaches.
I don't think it's been tried.

And it won't be tried.I don't think a blues show on a rock station is a bad idea.WZLX has a locally done one on Sunday mornings but don't count on anyone in Providence making the effort to do anything locally produced. When radio becomes an effort instead of a passion you do only enough to jiggle the numbers in relation to the other station in your group to sell spots.Back to the blues format though, not all rock listeners like blues beyond Clapton and the couple of Stevie Ray Vaughan cuts HJY plays.

Do you walk around in a vacuum Kenny?

Turn your dial to 99.3FM The Bridge. A unique blend of Blues - including many many local artists, Jazz, and some classics.

Its already here.. !

Question for Geoff Cook, and others who are in the know

How does a station like 99.3, with its transmitter on Block Island and barely makes the 12+ ratings in Providence and New London (I guess), know that they need to change its format? I think in the past 12 or 13 years (going back to the old free-form rock WBLQ), the station has had 4 or 5 different formats. I like the idea, and I guess the station would only really work away from any large market. Are there research consultants that survey the Washington/Newport County areas that helps smaller stations make formatting choices?

I'm guessing "the bridge" is a reference to the Newport Bridge, possibly the Jamestown Bridge, even though the station's stick is on Block Island. Perhaps one day they'll build a 13-mile bridge from Point Judith to Block Island. Just busting!

I don't know how format decisions are made but I'm guessing stations like The Bridge are able to survive based on relationships between the sales staff & sponsors. Live by the numbers & die by the numbers. Provide niche programming & show the right advertisers that it can work & you can survive. I haven't listened consistently enough to hear who is advertising on the station but assume they have sales people who've been with WADK as far back as when Sunny Von Bulow was conscious & know how to bring in the dollars.

By the way, I had The Bridge on today & was surprised at the diversity of music. They had me at Dr. John's Iko Iko. Even though I can't always get them, it's time to replace one of the ACs with them as a preset.
