A burgeoning personality

My favorite WFHM "The Fish" DJ is Josh Booth. It's great to know he is on consistently in the mid-morning to drive time slot. I also noticed that he's done an endorsement spot for Moore's RV. So, he's not just a generic voice reading copy, he introduces himself before getting to the selling message. Somebody felt it would be good for the business to have Josh step in as an identifiable voice for Moores RV. In the tight music format that is on WFHM, the DJs don't get to say too much, so for somebody to stand out is impressive.

Josh isn't too bad, but Gina Hart was way better. She was the best personality on The Fish since the period where the station had Dan Deely, Robin Swoboda (who was way better the people who are on the morning show now) and Elizabeth Grattan in its lineup. The station just wasn't the same after she was cut two years. It went to satellite programming during middays, but later went local again with Josh. Wise move. If only weekends can be 100% local as well.

Gina is also now back at The Fish. She's now doing news and traffic on the station along with WHK and WHKW. Speaking of The Fish, didn't someone mention last year there was going to be a national morning show? What happened to it? I still hear their local morning show.

Someone pointed out to me that Glenn Mertz (Salem employee, I believe is the morning host/ringmaster at WHKW/1220 "The Word") was doing news on WHK recently, but I shrugged it off...noting that Metro's Terry Groden was over on TV, filling in for Joy Redmond on 19, and that they probably didn't have a backup plan for WHK, so Glenn did it.

Is Terry off WHK now that Joy is back from vacation? I suppose I should check in at 9...

I wouldn't call Glenn Mertz a morning host per se--more like the guy who introduces the preachers for their 30-60 minute blocks.

Wouldn't shock me if while Rev. Fillintheblank was spreading the word on The Word, Glenn wandered down the hall to 1420 to do top/bottom of the hour local news.

And Josh Booth doing the same while manning his midday shift on The Fish sounds about right as well.

A little extra exposure for some in-house guys...nothing wrong with that.

Glenn's been a good all purpose utility guy for Salem for a lot of years, and Josh is an up and comer.

Makes a lot of sense, but I'm still trying to determine if Metro is off WHK, or for that matter, off Salem entirely.

Nathan's information about ELB would indicate to me that Metro is paring down its client list of the smaller broadcasters. Dave DeNatale (Metro employee) is still on WKNR as of tonight, and Linda Dawson is still doing traffic for both WKNR and the CBS stations, where she is an embed...

For those that didn't see my FB comment to OMW, all of the Elyria-Lorain stations - WEOL, WNWV and even WKFM! - took their Metro-fed reports in-house last week. V1073 has Mike Gallagher and Rocco reading the traffic reports (Gallagher does both news and traffic), and WEOL's lone newscaster, Craig Adams, now handles the Metro-fed traffic and sports reports for WEOL, and traffic for WKFM.

Metro clearly still is sending the content and accompanying ad copy to the ELB and Salem station by glorious means of the internet, but it appears they won't be supplying talent to them anymore.

And last I checked, Dino has double-dipped as a Metro embed and as board-op/engineer for WKNR's evening fare. The "embed" tag might have ended recently - or may end soon - for all we know. Don't know about Linda Dawson (Libby Rhodes), though.

So basically Clear Channel is leaving their mark of less personalities more of the time on Metro Traffic. Makes me happier that I don't have to drive to and from Ctown anymore to go to work. My friends at Rubber City do an excellent job for what I need in the mornings.

I've had the feeling for quite awhile that Dino is on the GKB payroll. He's been the producer for Xs and Os as well as GameNight/10th Inning/KNR OT (aka the Brinda block) for awhile now, as well as doing some PBP during the MAC hoops tournament.

I still heard Libby Rhodes yesterday doing traffic on R & R, but she is a CBS Cleveland embed, so that wouldn't affect anything.

107.3's Mike Gallagher was a longtime Metro guy (under the name Mike Kessler), so him doing news/traffic is old hat.

As far as I know, Dave is still a Metro embed for all the evening stuff. I don't know the arrangement for things outside his normal studio shift, like PBP.

As far as ELB/Salem, it sounds like they are still getting generic news/traffic information from Metro now, but no voices. A few stations went that route back when Metro closed the local office and downsized.
