Not sure.Could this have anything to do with KEMA's impending launch? https://fccdata.org/?facid=&call=ke...=&lmspl=&party_type=LICEN&latd=&lond=&lang=en
Turns out it was just a rebrand. Sports Star 1250 & 94.5.
I wonder what KYTY (Star 810 AM) has to say. They have a working website by the way, I was wrong. Star 810am
You're probably right.
BTW I realized where Sports Star got it's name... When KEMA was on the air fully for a few days in April 2015 with Texas Country I heard it calling itself "Lonestar 94.5". ESPN SA must be copying from that. But if KEMA ever signs on again fully, there may be trouble between "Sports Star" and "Lonestar"...
I doubt they are copying a name from a station outside of Corpus that is not even on the air. And which the ESPN station staff likely never even heard. You're probably right.

I suspect that the reason is far simpler: a sports station with that name in the Lone Star State is a lot easier to brand than "ESPN".
No, because four letters are less of a brand than a name associated with state pride.Because in some parts the ESPN brand has become toxic?
Sports Star and Lonestar, they're half just like each other. As for being wrong it was a guess but I rest my case.Where in gods green earth do you come up with these goofy ideas that have no basis in reality?
and as for being probably right, i know i am.. you usually usually get stuff so wrong

Also KEMA's new site is a lot closer to San Antonio than it is to Corpus. https://fccdata.org/?facid=&call=ke...=&lmspl=&party_type=LICEN&latd=&lond=&lang=en
Heck, even their old site is/was.
Such as KZPS.Lone Star is a handle in use with many stations in Texas. Not all are country stations or Texas-centric musically.
