a change in the valley...

knvo 101.1.... has changed... they are now a mix between mainstream music and a little bit of mainstream spanish, but ive been listening to it for about 2hrs and ive heard more english, its about time that there is some more english music down here. some of that stupid reggaeton... well is just stupid... but people down here think its cool because no one plays REAL RAP.... wild 104 in my eyes is still B104... because they play main stream rap that any station could play the other million songs that they play are in spanish... and they call themselfs... "number one for hip- hop r&b & reggaeton"... well i got news 4 u wild... you suck!!!!!!! get some people from out of the valley, that actually know what the REAL def of hip hop is... and then yall can claim whatever u want. the beat was the $h*t... to bad it aint here no mo...

It's now affiliated with the "Super Estrella" network, which has changed from being Spanish-language CHR to a bilingual CHR format.

I listened to it for a little while the other day, sounds like they should call it "Shakira 101.1"

Not sure how much growth from the "Romantica" audience they were already getting.

Those who want Rhythmic will listen to 104, those who want pop will listen to 106.3 & 107.9.

They will get very little audience from "digital" because of the English.

Wild, KTEX, 98.5 and 94.5 will continue to rule down here

You left out KGBT-FM, the #2 station in the market and KBTQ, at #3.

I've been listening online and I like the change. Personally, I would love to see a format similar to this in S.A.

I don't think that is quite true. Entravision's Super Estrella format has been adding English hits, but KZPL's (101.1's new calls now) playlist is something like 3/4ths English hits. So, it's not using the national feed...the national one still seems to be a majority of Spanish-language hits.

You are correct. KSSE in LA and the net play 4 English songs an hour, and the rest are Spanish pop.

Is it being called Planet Z? Listened to them for a while and they call themselves Super Estrella. But all over the website and the webpage URL, The name Planet Z is all over the place (look for it).

"Planet Z 101, Your World, Your Music"

This is very odd ???

it's funny because one thing about the beat was that we weren't from the valley, we were from other cities like san antonio and houston. but we always wondered if that was something against us because we weren't local and from edinburg, mission, weslaco, or brownsville...but i think we really came to know the region/market for the short time the station was around, and we knew the music/format. the market as a whole jumps alot faster on music than in other markets i've noticed. that was always a complaint i heard: that we never played the new stuff that was out.

now that the beat is gone you have a station there that's gotten rid of mostly all their jocks. i hear most of it's voicetracked, most of the morning show is gone, and the majority of the music that they play WAS spanish...i say was because from the looks of mediabase it seems that they have pulled back on their reggaeton records quite a bit. i hear people complain about stations that don't play "real hip hop" etc but people have their own definition of hip hop and it differs from market to market. maybe the valley's definition of hip hop is daddy yankee's "rompe" remix w/g unit, or chamillionaire's "ridin'", or something along the lines of gwen stefani/akon "sweet escape". maybe the valley just can't embrace the true hip hop/r&b format.

Whatever the valley embraces, obviously you did not provide it. Every market is different. Many folks don't realize that. What works in one place might not work in another.

The RGV is a hard market to figure. You have a sizeable amount of the population that likes a particular type of music. I believe it all depends on who gets surveyed during the period. Look at the top stations (KBFM,KGBT,KTEX,KFRQ,KBTQ). All play a vastly different type of music and are countinuously bouncing around in the ratings from survey to survey (except KBFM is usually on top)

everyone does have there own opinion about hip hop... i loved the fact that the beat wasnt from the valley... im originally 4rm houston... so yea... but 4 the meantime... i guess i just have 2 stick it out with xm radio... it sucks payin 12.95 a month, but when u live in "radio hell"... its ur only answer. (either that r cds)

They were even broadcasting in HD this morning. Can't seam to pick it up anymore. They were even doing PAD data on the SPS1 channel with a simulcast of the MPS channel.
