A Change To Report In The Alabaster Area

WZAL-LP 99.9 FM has flipped their format to Classic Country from the 50s to the 90s, under The Country Road banner. Heard some stuff on there that hasn't been played in years on the radio. (Cowboy Copas as a great example) Overall the presentation was very top notched, from what was being played today. I now have another reason to listen to the radio, while in that area. Glad to know that my engineer Mr. Chris Johnson serves as the program director. The ownership has changed too. A fellow by the name of Dr. Daz now owns it. Excited that Shelby County has a Classic Country station. It may be a LPFM broadcast but at least, this station is filling in a format hole and reaching out to that audience.

P.S, From what Mr. Chris told me tonight, the changes happened a month ago.

I don't get a chance to hear the station that often, as I'm in Calera and probably ten to fifteen miles "as the crow flies" from the station's transmitter; the WZAL signal is pretty weak here. Their stream disappeared around the beginning of January, along with their station facebook page and website after the station changed its name to "Z Mix 99.9" at that time (The "Z Mix" name evidently was a short-lived deal). I believe the APHradio.org website has returned since then, albeit scaled-down than it was before the Z-Mix branding was put into place (not really sure why they're still wanting to use a website domain with the station's previous name?). Their stream is still inactive, AFAIK. That's good to hear, though, the station is offering a a more focused format than what they have had in the past, with WZAL's previous all-over-the-road music amalgamation as APH Radio/Z-Mix 99.9.

btw, you could have posted this thread on the Birmingham board since Alabaster is suburban Birmingham, ya know... ;)
