A-Channel to Citytv/NewNet to A-Channel...

First things first, the websites:

Citytv.com has been updated with sites for Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

A-Channel.com is no longer in use with achannel.ca being used.
Click on "Toronto"(guess they don't care about Barrie anymore). The bar at the top says "Citytv | Barrie/Toronto".

All the sites now look pretty cookie cutter. Except CKXTV.com. They've kept the Craig-era site with links to the old A-Channel.com

CityNews uses a white, yellow and blue color scheme(with a bit of black).
Weather doesn't look unchanged. Funny note, after a Citytv promo was played, we got a "Closed Captioning on A-Channel is presented by..." on air.
______________

CIVI / CKVU...

I forgot CIVI doesn't run news on the weekends or stat holidays anymore, so I missed their last newscast as "The New VI" Friday night.

Their morning show went out as usual today at 6.30am, but now obviously called "A-Channel Morning", with new graphics and music. Adam Sawatsky (the host) mentioned the change and their "continued commitment to local coverage" maybe once every 10 minutes. They also managed to turn their live truck makeover into the feature segment.

They've also started running new A-Channel idents.
______________

Over at CKVU... still no visible sign of "CityNews" on air yet. The marquee inside their studio still said "CityPulse" on this morning's Breakfast Television, and there was no mention of the rebrand to CityNews during BT either. BT itself remained largely unchanged in terms of graphics and presentation; 2 of the hosts may have been let go, but I'm not sure.

The program guide on my cable box does list their 6pm newscast as "CityNews at Six". They've also put the "CityNews" logo on some of their vehicles...

Coming Soon: A-Channel Brandon??

How soon can CHUM get CKX Brandon to disaffiliate from the CBC to become "A-Channel Brandon"??

Re: CIVI / CKVU...

Derek:

Did you get video of CIVI's first newscast as A-Channel??

If you did (and if you were able to get from someone clips from it's last newscast as "The New VI"), you might want to set-up a page on your TV Vancouver website featuring the re-branding of the station with some video clips and screenshots.

Re: CIVI / CKVU...

If anyone out there has a Rogers digital cable box in the Toronto area, tune to channel 138. Nice to know the New VI is coming soon.
(No really! that's what is says!..."New VI coming soon") Rogers should update that screen.
______________

That's about to happen, 'cuz they'd open a repeater in Winnipeg.

Calgary personalities missing

Hey what happened to Jeb Fink and Darr Maqbool? I live in the US and can't watch on TV.

I did get CIVI's first newscasts as A-Channel (A-Channel Morning, and the 5-7pm newscast in progress right now). That material will end up on my site one way or another; I'll see if I can locate their last newscast as The New VI, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

As for CKVU... Seems like they've decided not to rebrand at the same time as the other CHUM stations after all. Their 6pm newscast just started right now, with the same CityPulse open and graphics they've been using for almost the last 2 years. I hear they'll debut new presenter lineups for both Breakfast Television and the main 6pm newscast on August 15th, so maybe they're leaving the rebrand until then.
______________

Fink left about 2 years ago for Global for a limited late night series. Not sure since, probably some stand-up comedy.

CHUM chose not to renew Darr Maqbool's contract. Mistake if you ask me.
______________

They might hold off on that, simply because it would be confusing to have an A-Channel that rebranded in Winnipeg and another A-Channel start elsewhere in the province so soon. I think for all the garbage CHUM has put us through, the least the CRTC can do is deny them disaffiliation for CKX. Although I'd like to see their licenses for CKVR, CHRO, and CKNX revoked.

I had to laugh at a couple goofs from CFPL (A Channel London). Last night meterologist Jay Campbell said "Coming up on News Now" during a tease. Then, tonight during an interview alongside a major road in London, a New PL SUV drove right by...it looked so well timed, with the A Channel logo on the screen.
