A Christmas Classic

One of the stations I grew up around, was WPET, Greensboro. The LORD allowed me to be mentored positively and negatively by their air staff, but that's for another thread LOL. Here's a classic broadcast from The Gethsemane Quartet of Greensboro, thanks to Dave Compton for originating the transfer used in this post.

Merry Christmas!

First off, thanks for at least viewing my rambling LOL and for some of you, clicking the link and listening to/getting the file above. I appreciate the Chief Operator and others, suggesting an alternate way for me to post something else I had intended on posting here originally, so I'm gonna try it here.

Dave Hutchison (sp) did mornings at 'PET's sister station in those days, WKSI, up those curvy stairs and also made his way to the Production Room sometime or other in the early '90s, to record this classic audio, done by a lot of DJs in those days, but I'm kinda partial to his version. Not sure where Hutch is these days. Last I heard, he worked at 'BTM in Danville, VA. Anybody know? Belated, merry Christmas but a holy New Year, praying for all of us herein.

There is a "Hutch" listed on the website. looks like this station is a mix of talk and music.

Yeah, that's the one. According to LinkedIn, David Hutcheson is a Radio personality at WBTM/WAKG and Voiceover and Video Producer at Virginia Multimedia. Looks like I spelled his name wrong, sorry. Also, while I'm here, WAKG, at FM 103.3, was the old WBTM FM. Looked up Randy Stafford, nothing found, thus far. I said I knew him from the third 'MO, AM 830 in Eden, but I forgot he worked for 'DVA, Danville for some time. Now that I think about it, he may have worked at 'BTM with Hutch, Alex and the crew, but I'm not too sure right now. I'm derailing my own thread LOL, sorry.

Do you know anything about that station? I may have heard it but don't remember. I just know we went to Danville a lot at night and I wondered what those red lights were. somehow we found them and I saw the towers close up. What a sight.

Thanks for the reply, glad I was able to jog some memories. From what I know, DVA was a graveyarder at 1250 and Country, for a long time. It went Black Gospel after that and has been that (from what I know) ever since, for maybe like thirty years or so, save for a Country song about Danville, they play daily at 11. That may be the Intro to their Swapshop-type program, heard it last time I was in the area, back in October.

WDVA 1250 is 5kW full-time, and was once a power player in Danville with a popular country format and once hosted the nationally-yndicated WDVA Barndance. The station's fortunes changed in the early 1990s, and it went dark before returning with the current gospel format.

WDVA is 5kw nondirectional day, nights at 1kw with mostly a West to East signal pulling in tight to the north and south. Definitely not a graveyard signal. that would be someone on 1230/1240

Roger on the power/pattern. Sorry, I thought 1250 was a graveyard channel, reckon I need to brush up on those LOL.
