A Countdown Hour?

O ye veterans - would a countdown style hour work during the day, at, say, the 11am, 3pm or 5pm hours on a AAA? The countdown would be the internal one our PD creates when he sends off his playlist. I've mostly ever heard countdowns on Top 40 stations and I'm wondering if there is something about that listener base that that works really well with that might not work as well with AAA listeners?

Thoughts? Concerns? Ideas?

What do you mean by "work"? Are you asking if it would cause listeners to go out of their way to get to a radio and tune in who otherwise wouldn't even be listening to the radio? Or are you asking if a countdown style hour would get more listeners to keep on listening instead of changing the station? Are you asking if it was something that if someone was listening in their car, they'd stay in the car in the driveway to hear the end?

Do you really think AAA (One of those "A's" refers to "Adult", BTW) listeners get emotionally involved in how well their favorite songs are doing on the charts? (Oh Martha, my favorite song is stuck at #2! I need a drink!)

I will say that the gimmick hour Mara Davis does on Dave FM (92.5) in Atlanta "works". She asks listeners to call in suggested songs that fit a certain theme, like they mention food or have a number in the title. Then she plays them between noon and 1:00. That was interesting enough that I'd make it a point to turn her show on at lunchtime, even when I wasn't even listening to the radio otherwise. But a countdown show for AAA? I don't think so.
