A Couple of New Catches From Eastern Pennsylvania

I was DXing on Saturday (1/30/10) and I was able to receive two new stations. Both stations were heard from Eastern Pennsylvania.

1370 WSHV South Hill, VA - A little after 7PM Saturday evening I heard an Urban Adult Contemporary station on this frequency and I was curious to know what it was. After a few songs were played, I heard a man say, "Always more music, WSHV." It's signal was mixing with WXXI but it was listenable. That was a 233 mile catch for me.

940 WMAC Macon, GA - I was suprised to hear this one. After I heard about CINF and CINW going off the air, I decided to see what I could hear on 690 and 940. On 940, I heard a mention of WMAC's website. Then at 11PM Saturday night, I heard the top-of-the-hour ID- "News Talk 940 WMAC, Macon/Warner-Robins." It was fighting with WNRG out of Grundy, VA. A 626 mile catch.

Juniper -- whereabouts in EPA? I and The Pooch (not a bad DXer herself when she wants to admit she's hooked) are along that 'scenic' stretch of I-81 between Hazleton and Pottsville.

Haven't had the opportunity to do any 940-ing or 690-ing lately. Too many things to do. But we had 12 stations on 940 logged back in the less cluttered days from Long Island (the GA one back when it was WMAZ), and 7 on 690. Don't want to get greedy, hi.

Hearing CBU would be nice on 690, as would (drool) Hawaii. Fresno would be nice on 940. But it seems that sunset or sunrise DXing on those ripe frequencies could satiate our retired life better than a 9PM DXing session would.

I, too, had some great catches in Eastern PA (western Berks and eastern Lebanon Counties) last evening, but on the FM side:

KSOU 93.9 Sioux Center, IA (RDS "KSOU")
KKYA 93.1 Yankton, SD (legal ID)
KWQW 98.3 Boone, IA (talk format)

A few I could not positively ID but were not locals:

Hip-hop/CHR on 106.3
Local sports coverage on 95.7 (mixing with WBEN-FM in Philadelphia)

Surprised no one else posted on this opening.
