A couple of years too late.

There is a chance that Limbaugh & Hannity will not be on any Cumulus stations:

Had this really happened* a couple of years ago would 100.3 still be news talk?

* Just speculation I bet CC and Cumulus will make a deal. Premier / CC would really have to scramble in a lot of markets, they have WOR in NYC, but what about the other big markets where CC doesn't have an under performing property?

Just for the sake of an active thread, (this board has slowed down) Cumulus drops Rush where would here go?

Satellite?...web?....app?

Cumulus has Savage and Huckabee locked up in current deals, so look for them to take those spots held by Hannity and Rush.

Oh no. Rush won't be off the air and pushed to vast waste land of the web. He's the franchise and will be until the day he dies. He won't be parked! He doesn't have that option on the gear shift! As many followers and as good as those other guys are, they aren't even in the same league at this point.

If Cumless cuts him loose he'll land quick! You'd see stations make a format to be able to have him be the cornerstone. And the funny thing is, the Cume boys are playin' with fire and I think they know it.

Let's say. since this thread is into speculation, that they know they're sinking and headed the direction of Citadel. They have to find something to change somewhere. What's bigger, Rush's ego or theirs? Could it be their last play? Trying to see if they can face down the biggest name in the industry and get huge concessions? It could very well have implications past the current negotiation.

And it certainly would create similar situations in other markets too with stations leaping to and fro trying to plug holes they think are happening. And what if Rush sees it that way and wants to create a ripple like that? Might start to be the Cume boys driving down this lane and might end with Rush deciding to put his foot to the floor! What better way to cement his legacy?

While this particular threat may fade away soon, perhaps the bigger story behind the story, can't.

Hmmm......

In my part of NC - 60 miles west of Asheville - there are two non-news stations that have carried for the better part of 25 years, if not since his first broadcast. Adult Standards, WHKP in Hendersonville, NC, and Classic Country WCAB in Rutherfordton. However, these are small towns.

Betting if WOKI loses Rush, some other FM in town will try to see if it can get a sweet enough deal that will allow a format change.

There is NO story here about Crums dropping these two. They dropped Dave Ramsey in his hometown. Like NASH they are building a talent portfolio that they can better control and profit from. Whether they will succeed is questionable, but it's the next big wave, so why not...

Re Rush / Hannity / Cumulus, expect Rush to be renewed in many markets especially the big 50 kw Clears, Hannity to be replaced by Levin already an ABC talent.

Rush's peak years are behind him. His show is now not desired by advertising agencies. Their buyers do not want their ads on the Rush Limbaugh program. And talk radio is now aging gradually out of key demographics. I see talk being more viable a bit longer in the Southern states. And I see AM still supporting Rush for a few more years. There so far haven't been any replacements for the present talk format star talent even close to what Rush and Hannity have brought to the table.

Funny, the ad agencies keep purchasing time on Rush's show. My son is 20 and listens to him.

But which kind of ads? I hear local spots sometimes which are decent. Most national Rush spots are bottom feeders unless advertisers have loosened up on Rush.

Most local ad agencies don't have that much discretion usually. If the client listens to Rush, he'll ask the agency to buy spots in the show. If the out-of-town clients slow down, it just lowers the price for the show, increasing the efficiency for the smaller guy.

There are those, and some are on this board, who hope Rush disappears and have hoped it for 25 years. Every time there is a story about his impending demise, it turns out to be wrong.

Rush isnt going anywhere anytime soon. ;D
