A Crummey week for Mac 'n' Cheese

Joe Crummey takes the mic this week--telecommuting from El Ay, of course--for the vacationing Mac 'n' Cheese Watson.

If Bonneville wanted to real notch-up a ratings win and improve the air quality, they would dump Mac 'n' Cheese and pick-up Joe Crummey full-time. Sure, he telecommutes from El Ay, but it improves the air quality--Crummey doesn't have to drive to work and we don't have to listen to stories about the infamous gilfriend anymore. ;D

...Joe Crummey in the afternoons on KFYI KTAR.

So, in the last few weeks, we have all been excited about: Hill filling in for Aunt Carlos (did you know that Andy Thomas' department is using state money to promote his new book?), Sharp filling for Gaydos, and Crummey filling in for Mac.

What is wrong with this picture?

Fill in hosts aren't supposed to be better than the real hosts (ask Barry Young).

I'll be listening to Joe today, he's the talk show host that you really like (I ain't no dummy) Feels so happy when he's on the mike..Joe Crummey

I would be curious to know how well Mac does against Hannity in the 3pm hour, and if he beats JD from 4pm-7pm.

One of the big stumbling blocks I have with Mac's show is his stuttering and stammering. Annoying! That, and I fail to see how his infamous girlfriend stories make for compelling talk radio. We need to talk (as the voice over announcer says) about the infamous girlfriend? I don't think so. ::)

...or Rush Limbaugh!

words and music by Billy Preston....he's handsome, humble and soooooo Eeevil!

Billy Preston...he is dead

My brother had him on his floor at the hospital he works at.

Of all the "fifth Beatles" out there, he was the last.

Hill, Sharpe, Crummey... where have we seen this lineup before? Oh the days of 7th and Missouri.

Sounds like a winner for KayTeeAyER.

Maybe the Master Blogger can shake loose a few extra dollars and get a better connection for el Lay Joe. At times it sounded as weird as those XM Traffic & Weather channels! Great to hear the Evil One back in PMD. A tip of the fez to Mac 'n Cheese for taking the week off. Hmmmmm...wonder if it's raining where he and his infamous girlfriend are?

Where is Russ anyway? The past few months he's been more incognito
than me at the KOOL Splish Splash. Oops, I just torched KOOL's recently
younged-up demos a bit with the late '50s oldie reference. ;)

And speaking of sounding underwater, what is the Evil One being brought
in on--an internet connection?

It must be sweet revenge for Crummey to go head to head with JD. KFYI is getting it's a** handed to itself.

How do you figure that? KFYI is running sans a PD and still pulls in good numbers. KTAR is run by a PD and managers in SLC and is merely doing about as well as KFYI in the demo that counts.

If KFYI is getting it's a** handed to itself, tell us how, with examples (e.g.- Beck is beating Rush, Aunt Carlos is beating Barry Komando, Mac is beating JD, etc.).

I haven't really listened to Joe Crummey since he left evenings and did the afternoon drive at KFYI. It was so good to hear Joe once again! Good memories! Wish I would have seen this topic Monday morning, but not-so-incognito me had a very KOOL weekend and I'm still... recuperating.

Jayaz, your station has a new listener for the rest of the week... Still eee-vil after all these years!

Well, going by Eduardo's posts, it looks like KTAR-FM is closing in on KFYI 25-54 (and, I'd guess, beating it some dayparts 25-54) while KFYI likely has a commanding lead in the older demos (35-64), which accounts for its #1 status 12+. KFYI has Rush and Hannity, a stable lineup, it's an election year, and so it wins 12+ almost by default. (A chimp could inhabit the PD's office right now and take credit for #1). But...FM is where the majority of 25-54 year olds are, so it figures that KTAR would automatically do well in that demo. It would probably do even better if some of the lightweight lineup was upgraded. Look at how well conservative talk is doing on FM in places like Boston and Pittsburgh. That should worry KFYI. I'd be surprised if CC isn't looking for an FM stick for KFYI.

CCU aint buyin' nothing...if anything, the new ownership will probably be selling stuff to pay down debt. Nurse Jeff and I advised the CCU Suits to pre-empt TMISU's move to FM two years ago by putting KFWhyEye on one of their underperforming FMs. Now you know how much they pay attention to us!

Back to topic - Joe Crummey hit his stride yesterday on KT'R. What a mistake the Master Blogger made in not using this talented talker to cover a shift until now. But don't get us started on the many mistakes the MB has made!

Here we go...

I like Joe Crummey and think he does a great job.
BUT
If KFYI thought he was the ratings magnet they would have either
A: Not hired J.D. Hayworth (KFYI's type of host)
B: Put Hayworth in from 7-10 P.M.
C: Moved Crummey to 7-10 P.M.

They did none of the above.

C: Moved Crummey to 7-10 P.M.

They did none of the above.

Here's why:

A - Hayworth, as a former Congressman, brought even more conservative credentials to KFWhyEye. His race against Harry Mitchell was very close and there are still a lot of listeners in the Valley that dig him. Living here he can shmooze clients a whole lot easier than el Lay Joe.

B - Hayworth wouldn't do evenings. Been there, did that, back when KFWhyEye was at 9~Ten

C - Wheel Of Hosts was a ruse as CCU mandated no local talent ($$) after 7pm. Our hunch is Hayworth cost KFWhyEye more than Crummey, making such a scenario impossible.

Nurse Jeff and I agree with you that Joe Crummey is good. In fact, more gooder than the other KT'R talkers!

Remember that at the time, there was C2C media flak from KFYI's having hired Crummey and carrying out this huge "deception" about where he was coming from geographically.' FYI should have told everyone to kiss off (including the MB) and let it blow over but theyhired J.D. instead. I can't believe J.D. attracts younger demos than Crummey-I quit listening to BOTP because it sounded like open mike night in Sun City. I remember at the time, the good Dr. mentioned something about the NBO's having had some influence regarding the Crummey/J.D. decision andI was intrigued.

Just maybe we can keep you for a while after JC. I'm working on Pattiwacki.

Just one at a time. I'll know we've arrived when Akbar calls in.
