Could it be 94.5 out of Moapa Valley? I have heard that they could go dance. They are currently testing/teasing. No matter what format they choose, nobody will listen unless they boost their signal. It is worse than 104.7. Sometimes the bleeding from KWNR takes over the 94.5 signal. I also heard the owners of 94.5 will also sign on a new station at 93.5.
Or how about PARTY? Has anyone noticed they dropped their 70s disco? They are more contemporary and uptempo. Here is a recent sample hour
Missy Elliott-Get Ur Freak On
Timberland-Apologize
2 Unlimited-Get Ready For This
Pink-U+Ur Hand
Pretty Poison-Catch Me I'm Falling
Destiny's Child-Say My Name
Kanye West-Stronger
Miami Sound Machine-Rhythm Is Gonna Get You
C & C Music Factory-Here We Go, Let's Rock & Roll
Rihanna-Hate That I Love You
Notorious B.I.G- Mo Money Mo Problems
Pussycat Dolls-Don't Cha
I'm not sure if this would be considered dance, but then again how many real dance stations are there in the U.S at this time? Very few.
it'll be the party. they just dumped whoopi (see: lost her) for kidd kraddick...which is more of a CHR show. so to match their morning show, they'll flip top 40/dance, and basically keep doing what they are doing. its a "soft flip" at the most.
94.5 will probably be a straight-on top 40 if they are smart. how far is their signal reaching anyways...covering the whole vegas valley well enough?
According to one of the people associated with this new Dance station it'll be on a signal that is 100,000 watts strong at nearly 2000 feet. That would actually rule out KPLV Party 93.1
Although "technically" not 100kw, I would consider 93.1 a "full power" station in Las Vegas based on terrain and other frequencies. According to the playlist Jay posted, the current imaging, the new morning show, and the fact that Clear Channel does not have a competing CHR in house, Party 93.1 IS the station that's making the slight format change. Maybe not a full on traditional "dance station" but the obvious choice considering what we know. Let's check the current English lineup:
-Lotus is all about rock and sports. Don't expect anything here.
-Beasley could flip Fresh but it's doubtful. Why get involved in a match with Kemp and CBS over that small demo?
-Rivera could flip Area or Oasis but I don't see how a dance format would help revenue for that group.
-CBS already has KLUC and Mix in house. Doubtful that they'd flip Xtreme or Jack to dance.
-That leaves Clear Channel and 93.1 as the obvious choice within that group.
All the other stations are smaller and underpowered operations. Launching a dance station on any of them would be fruitless when it comes to ratings in Las Vegas.
Hey, don't get me wrong, I think it'd be great if 93.1 dumped Rhythmic AC for Dance, but I don't think it's them. They may end up evolving to CHR/Pop though.
Stations in Vegas most likely to make the flip, based on their current ratings, as well ass being 100,000 watts at around 2000 ft: KRRN 92.7 FM, 102.7 KFRH, and especially KVGS 107.9 Area 108.
The revolution is happening slowly but surely! Be sure there will be more to follow! (no sarcasm)
But seriously, a station like this would WORK in Las Vegas. LV has shot up over the last few years to become the club capital of the West Coast; the Billboard Dance Music Summit takes place there. There's definitely an interest out in the region for a current based rhythmic station to happen there. I wish the station the very best of luck!
I tuned into 94.5 in Spring Valley and I barely heard anything. But I did hear country music, and no it wasn't bleed over from KWNR. I don't think they are running the full 100kW yet. And the FCC data shows that 93.5, 94.5 and the CP for 96.7 are all 93kW 637 HAAT, so are all three of these stations using the same tower when they go live?
I beleive they are all out of a common tower and antenna in Moapa. 94.5 has an application for a booster in sunrise manor, not sure but suspect the other two will as well. The booster is only a little over 200 watts.
