A "dance" station that sounds worse than Party FM!

So if you think PartyFM 87.7 plays too much hip hop, you won't like WWMX-HD2, Mix 106.5 HD2 in Baltimore. The HD1 is CHR. It's a bad place for a "Party" format, just like 87.7. First of all, it's an HD2, hip hop is not going to get people to buy an HD radio. Baltimore has a hip hop station on HD1, and Washington DC has 2 hip hop stations. They are very repetitive, and only play a handful of dance songs and is mostly rhythmic CHR hits and pop remixes. I heard Chingy - Right Thurr twice in an hour! To top it off, Mix 106.5 has an HD3 music format, so the HD2 and HD3 have poor audio quality. The good thing about Mix 106.5 is that it has a good mixshow daily at noon and weekend nights on the HD1.

It doesn't matter anyway, a pure dance format on WWMX-HD2 might get 10 listeners instead of the 5 listeners their current format has. I'm glad that PartyFM 87.7 doesn't sound this bad.

Recording the HD-2 stream now, so far, I hear more dance today, but I'm recording a 6 hour sample, so I will compare and contrast.  From the way it sounds now, this could be killer for smaller markets, have the mainstream get a dance music 101 going.  But I will give total opinion once I'm done recording Mix2.

Re: A "party" station that sounds BETTER than Party FM!

This stations sounds more better that PartyFM. They had dance tracks from Kim Sozzi, DJ Encore, Ron Reeser, Stereo Love was on rotation, and aout a handful of hip hop songs, hip hop songs that PartyFM doesnt even touch! I like this channel!

This station is somewhat like Z103.5 without the Rock (and Cancon) tracks. The new WWMX-HD2 is superb for what it is, a rhythmic/dance hybrid. Big station voice too - it sounds good.

Sorry I came off harsh about my opinion of WWMX-HD2. I admit that it would be a very good rhythmic CHR presentation...on a major market HD1 signal, not an HD2. It's guaranteed to get way fewer listeners as as HD2 than a pure dance HD2 would get. The web stream has better audio quality than the actual HD2 broadcast. My gripe about PartyFM having the same rhythmic CHR format is similar in nature, it's 87.7, their signal has less coverage in New York City than HD stations, so why play 50% of the same music you can hear on 4 other stations on that weak signal?

A format like this on a big signal will get people to listen to dance, and a pure dance format on HD2 will be there for people who want to hear only dance music all the time.

Personally, I like WWMX-HD2 aka "MIX2." BTW I would give CBS a lot of credit for launching Dance-formatted HD2 outlets on some of their properties.

This is basically how Party sounded a few years ago with Pat Garrett as VO. And Im surprised CBS worked out this format. You would think they already put it on the map with all of their Now/Amp stations they launched.

I must be listening to a different station than you guys. I love party. I hear current dance on there that 90% of the stations in this country won't touch. I hear old school dance that I haven't heard on the station in years. I.m loving this station! So they play some Hip Hop. Get Over It. :D

I see the laughter there but I do have to say this....

If it was a 85/15 dance leaning split, okay, then yeah. But lately the equation has leaned about 60/40. So in effect, it's really not "some" hip-hop :)

I've noticed Mix 106.5 HD2 is 20% dance 80% pop/hip hop

And Tony's right, half the time when I press the button for my 87.7 preset, it's hip hop and I tune out. I used to just leave it on Pulse 87 all the time and rarely listen to any other station.
