Topics that don't matter? Hmmm...oh, I have one...anything on Pulse 87. ;)

it actually doesn't exist anymore....i'm surprised that an AM oldiesfan knows about a former FM in NY that flipped to CHR

why does this thread keep getting posts? 1440 AM? The Oldies Jukebox with infomercials? the sound is terrible, can't believe anybody even tunes in. but the same geeks have created 56 pages of topics that don't matter.

If I didn't have finals going on over at the Buckeye Media Hut's Phoenix campus, I would defend the Lumberyard till the death! I'll admit 1440 has its faults, but when you're an oldies music fan and it's the ONLY option in the Phoenix market, you'll take it. Think of 1440 AM like a dumb blonde: she's pretty stupid, has endless minutes of dead air, talks all morning and afternoon, but you'll date her until a better girl comes around. You ain't got anything else going on so you'll take it, "skinny legs and all," as Joe Tex would say! ;D

That is possibly the best description of the Lumberyard I've ever heard anyone make there George! ;D

Did Nurse Jeff and I hear Seals & Croft's Summer Breeze Thursday afternoon on Lumberyard 14~Forty? That's so....er, KOOL!

Compared to 1580 which smothers 50,000 watts in IBOC crap with the same dynamic range as a phone line, 1440 with a good ol' Optimod 9000a pumping away sounds pretty good. Now if Grumpdusky could run it better..

WARNING! It's another "Kookie" alert! Today around 3:44 P.M., Edd "Kookie" Byrnes took us on another tour of his "Mad Pad." That's right, the overstuffed couch, wall-to-wall television and all. Sounds like he's getting ready for the big Cardinals Monday Night game tonight against the 49ers! Funny enough, this song was followed by one of the "newest" songs played on 1440 and that was "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts from 1972. I almost fell asleep after hearing that song. Zzzz!

Another eye-opening song on the Lumberyard today was played just minutes before Kookie took the stage and that was "I Had too Much to Dream (Last Night)" by the Electric Prunes from 1966. Definitely an obscure song to play on the Lumberyard and one that probably would make more sense if you were stoned. I'll have to ask my professors over at the Buckeye Media Hut Phoenix campus about that one! ;D

Here's what the Buckeye Boyz posted on 12/10: Did Nurse Jeff and I hear Seals & Croft's Summer Breeze Thursday afternoon on Lumberyard 14~Forty? That's so....er, KOOL! It definitely belongs in the cull bin at Ponderosa Lumber!

Great psycho-rocker for the FM side of Cactus Radio (KSLX), but not for Lumberyard 14~Forty (we've often wondered if The Electric Prunes are related to The Electric Indian* ). The Nurse and I can only suppose the Goldminers are getting a bit testy and sneaking in stuff Mrs Lumberyard would certainly not approve!

* okay, okay...here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri_SXIgxLcw now this we could hear on 14~Forty!

Lumberyard 1440 sounded rather weak today (midday and afternoon).

While the signal strength on my Sangean 909 meter appeared normal,
the audio levels coming out of the Goldmine were quite low, especially
compared to several other 5 kw and 1 kw stations nearby on the dial.

Is the old Ampliphase Gates Five going south, or is it simply the need
to pot up the audio in the "KAZG closet" at the Londen Tower?

Closed circuit for Gumpdusky: if you are going to the Lumberyard to
scope things out there, how about also resetting the lamptimer?
It's now drifted over four minutes on the late side--today's ID-less
(of course) carrier dump was at 5:19:07 PM.

I actually gave KAZG some listening time this afternoon--along with
K-Slacks--as I'm anything but thrilled with the KOOL Kristmas Weekend.
Too bad I don't have a Purple People Meter. ;D

Akbar's right. If Gumpdusky can't get a new, more accurate lamptimer,
then they really need to go the "clap on...clap off" route. ;D And have
the Clapper trigger a relay that overrides the music automation and airs
a legal ID.

OK, I think I was the one who originally made a reference to the Lumberyard using the clapper...
But... What if they played "Greased Lightning" from the Soundtrack from the movie "Grease"?

A whole lotta clap in that one. Kinda like a gift that keeps on giving.

What if they played "Let's Go" by the Routers!. That would break any clapper.

Don't forget Clap For The Wolfman...that would 'cause numerous non ID'd carrier dumps. YIKES!

The beginning of "Car Wash" by Rose Royce would also result in multiple carrier dumps.

That brings back memories when i was in Mississippi the station had harris processing feeding a harris transmitter and I do not remember the country song that was played but it would dump the transmitter each time the song played, used to use eddie rabbit I love a rainy night to set AM processing because of the dynamics.. before optimods came out, this was on the DAP processor which you had to put a heat lamp on the thing in the winter because the sound changed so much

The solid state Harris DX series were notorious for shutting down with sustained 60 to120 Hz program material. Hum on a phone call will do it unless you have the high pass filter set to near 100 Hz. Thinks it’s got a power supply fault.

Santa visited Lumberyard 14~Forty early on Wednesday evening as the lamptimer dumped the carrier at 6:15pm, instead of local sunset at 5:15pm. At first Nurse Jeff and I thought they might be teasing us with a new xmttr capable of running at 52 watts, but then we realized it was a Gumpdusky glitch. Aint no way 52 watts can make it from Scottsdale to Buckeye on that frequency! But then again maybe they thought just because KFuNN keeps full power on until 6pm, they could do it too!

60 minute lamptimer drift - a new record for the all day goldmine!

Edd Byrnes must have been in control last night so that he could get in one more Kookie song before sign-off. Or, maybe the Lumberyard is trying to teach that Santa Maria, California station a lesson or two about who really owns the 1440 dial. My vote is on neither one because I really like Radio Zvezda on 1440 MW from St. Petersburg, Russia. Those Russian stations don't have to play by any stinking FCC rules so they power up whenever they want as often as they want! ;D

Heads Up for Gumpdusky from the Buckeye Boyz: January local sunrise is the same as last month: 7:30am, but you can keep the Goldmine open for an extra thirty minutes as local sunset moves from 5:15 to 5:45pm. And please don't bother with a legal ID at sign off as that would take at least three seconds of your extra time!

Note to KFuNN - you can throttle back to 100 watts either 45 minutes past local sunset, like you've done in December. Or you can do it at the end of Moe Ansari's Market Wrap, which is only 15 minutes past local sunset. Nurse Jeff and I know you'll surprise all of us next month!

Gary will get the full hour (6p-7p) at the "intermediate" rate.
