A day in the life of a lamptimer

Yeah I could see the bird continuing to "tip" switching the station on and off and on and off......

Well we'd probably have to hook everything up on a single power source to make sure it works right. I have a 6 outlet 15 amp power strip that I think could handle the load.

I see a Nautel on the horizon, nighttime power

Middle Eastern hearts be still! Santa catfish (with a lower case c) has brought the Goldminers an early Christmas Winter Solstice present with the possibility of nighttime Pow-Pow-Power for Lumberyard 14~Forty. While it's only 52 watts, Nurse Jeff and I are looking forward to hearing wornout oldies (or Radio Khushi) in the middle of the damned night. This news will bring a big smile to all who attend the Buckeye Media Hut Homecoming this weekend!

Your all day (and soon all night)...14 in a row Goldmine. Arizona Gold. KAZG

Here, here! This is wonderful news and we will all be listening attentively for the first night-time transmission. The Buckeye Media Hut will have a team of reporters covering this historic event, including Bruce Haffner live from the 3TV Newschopper. Also, I think some KAZG Nautel Transmitter Bumper Stickers will have to be made to mark this special occasion.

Can't wait to hear some "Kookie, Kookie Lend Me Your Comb" broadcasting live in the middle of the night from the Scottsdale Crosscut Canal Lumberyard! ;D

From Nova Scotia straight to the Lumberyard...

Gumpdusky is merely complying with Can-Con requirements. It's either a new Nautel, or playing Wreck of The Ella Fitzgerald instead of Kookie in power rotation ::)

capital for next year is a wonderful thing but pink floyd's old song, "several species of small furried animals gathered together in a cave grovin' with a pic" should be the song played

Wreck of The Ella Fitzgerald...

Didn't Ella do this classic tune in a duet with Dino on the "Best of the Dean Martin
Variety Show," one of the staples of weekend TV infomercials these days? (But
order right away, as it's about to be sent back to the vaults for 20 years! ;D)

You can really tell when it's a clip from an older Dino show--those TK-41 cameras
are a dead giveaway!

Those TK-41's are almost the size of Lumberyard 14~Forty's xmttr. Just wait 'til that new Nautel arrives, they'll be plenty of space in the old KPOK building to do an indoor rodeo.

As we all await the arrival of the new Nautel transmitter, someone over at the Goldmine reset the Lamptimer yesterday for sign-off to 6:02 P.M. This change allowed Radio Khushi to air in full after just yesterday the Lamptimer started kicking in around 5:58 P.M., cutting Radio Khushi a couple minutes short. Now with the change today, Radio Khushi ended a little bit after 6:00 P.M., a TOH ID aired at 6:01 P.M. and the Lovin' Spoonful started singing, "Do You Believe in Magic?" Then, at exactly 6:02 P.M. and 0 seconds, the Lamptimer kicked in and ended all KAZG fun for the broadcast day.

If history serves right, the reverse-drift Lamptimer will now cause the carrier to dump about 15 seconds earlier each day. Come Halloween, the last minute of Radio Khushi could be in trouble yet again! :-\

As November quickly approaches, one wonders what KAZG will do with Radio Khushi next month. A 5:30 P.M. monthly sign-off time with a show that runs until 6:00 could mean some use of the PSSA! Of course, this is assuming the new Nautel transmitter isn't ready in time to air Radio Khushi and all our favorite Goldmine oldies* into the cold November night!

* Please see the thread on some lowly AM station fleeing Globe to see the accurate definition of OLDIES according to our RI experts. If KAZG isn't considered OLDIES, I don't know what is! 8)

These scrolling marquees are a real pain in the butt, especially when they refer to voluminous hot air being generated on another thread concerning the move of a Globe Miami radio station to Apache Junction as well as what the meaning of Oldies is and the definitions of Hispanic and Latino as if anyone really gives a damn or whether the Occupy Phoenix crowd will descend on Buckeye this weekend and wreak havoc on the Media Hut Homecoming event both Nurse Jeff and I have prepared. So there!

Lumberyard 14~Forty's post sunset authorization for November:

5:30 - 6pm 100 watts

6 - 6:30pm 38 watts

6:30 - 7:30p 18 watts

The Goldminers current xmttr is incapable of running less than 500 watts, per catfish. So we'll just have to wait until the new Nautel arrives.

"It's Homecoming 2011 at the Buckeye Media Hut this weekend! Get a whiff of all the tasty things Nurse Jeff can cook in the deep fat fryer. Plus watch The Old Gringo and Bill Drake arm wrestle to see who knows more about Ancient Modulation. Free admission to anyone over the age of 108."

Well that lets me in because I make Moses look like a teenager.... A face MADE for radio!

Is Gumpdusky getting a new xmttr in order to sell Lumberyard 14~Forty? Hmmmm....Nurse Jeff and I've noticed some pretty heady prices for marginal Ancient Modulation stations in Dallas, Basten and Noo Yawk recently. Getting the All Day Goldmine running all night would allow them to cash in both the Lumberyard and Sports Parkinglot 10~Sixty for an attractive price. And speaking of marginal stations needing to be sold, there's Landfill 8~Sixty. The Buckeye Boyz think TMISU would take anything north of $1.25m for it.

The Nautel XR6 will do 7500 watts! As for low power? The on-line spec sheets only show the lowest of 500 watts. Will the XR6 do 18 watts?

From what I see on the Nautel website, the XR6 6 KW AM Transmitter has a range of 50 watts to 7,500 watts. KAZG's nighttime authorization is 52 watts, so the Nautel XR6 should be just fine.

You can view the specs of the aforementioned XR6 by going here: http://www.nautel.com/Main.aspx?id=2332. Then, click on the PDF for "Technical Summary" under "Product Information."

If this is the Lumberyard's new transmitter, it looks pretty sweet! Besides being able to broadcast down to 50 watts, it is also fully compatible for HD radio broadcasting.
