A day in the life of a lamptimer

Whoa...a first for Lumberyard 14~Forty as earlier today Nurse Jeff and I heard two units in a stopset! While they were those brokered safety tips sponsored by some Mom & Pop outfit, this is the first time we've ever heard more than one unit in a stopset during the hours they're playing worn out oldies. Odd that Gumpdusky doesn't run any commercials (paid or bonused) after sunset to take advantage of the huge audience that 52 watts brings them! And odd that we've never heard "Lil Darlin'" by The Diamonds on Lumberyard 14~Forty. Guess we could start listing songs that should be played, but aren't .. but that would put this thread over 100k views

it's right where its supposed to be, nice and legal. BTW doc your missing a big change, another milestone in 1440's history. 8)

Yeah, but it doesn't play Bang 545 every day!

The Nurse and I wuz thinkin'....this newfound interest in Lumberyard 14~Forty and catfish's big surprise announcement may reignite the number of hits on this stupid thread. Butt (he-he) then again, mabye KEZ will take Wonderful Xmastime out of their hourly rotation

The announcement Catfish is scheduled to make will electrify everyone on this board. It has nothing to do with programming but... does have something to do with several kilowatts of power during nighttime hours.

Stand by for the big announcement!

Here's our prediction:

Gumpdusky will donate a crappy ol AMC vehicle to whoever owns that station in Meh-Hee-Coe that Lumberyard 14~Forty has to protect at night. It will go silent and scrap parts will be melted down fast and furiously. Borrowing a page out of the McLendon engineering book, a 12 tower array will be built atop the Paddock Pool warehouse to the east providing a city grade signal over Guadalupe at night while cranking out 3kw of worn out oldies music pow-pow-power. Due to the extreme number of nulls caused by 12 towers, no one driving by the Lumberyard at night will be able to hear the station. catfish (small "c") will no longer post on this board due to the amount of time he'll need to check monitor points. And the Positive Side of Sports will return between 11pm and 1am.

Wow, what can this "big announcement" be? As if 52 watts of night-time Lumberyard power wasn't enough, looks like we're going to jack up the KAZG signal to several kilowatts! This is exciting news as people all over the valley will now be able to hear the Lumberyard in crystal clear AM stereo sound.* Get ready KFNY and KUHL, there's a new night-time border blaster on the 1440 dial! ;D

* Does anyone still have an AM Stereo radio? ??? ??? *

AM stereo does not exist on any US radio stations and no AM receivers have been built for AM stereo in a very long time.

Oh, great! What's next catfish (lower case c)? There is no Santa Claus? There are no ribs in a McRib sandwich? The Buckeye Media Hut is all made up? YIKES!!

Memo to Nurse Jeff: double up the coal on order for catfish' stocking.

While roasting our chestnuts on an open fire, Nurse Jeff and I had a text from catfish (lower case c). The c'fish sez the big announcement about Lumberyard 14~Forty has nothing to do with more night time pow-pow-power. We begged for more info, but Jack Frost was nipping at his nose and he had to guide 12 tiny reindeer back to the goldmine. So much for gettin' the skinny on what promises to be a major milestone in the life of a lamptimer ::)

That's not true. There's still several AM stations running AM Stereo, and to this day AM Stereo Receivers are still being made :)

Albeit they are few and far between, and the receivers are hard to find in the US
(IIRC, The HD Radios decode C-QUAM AM Stereo)

False on both parts. There are roughly 75 A.M. Stereo stations on in the U.S. & about 15 more in the world and Fanfare & Meduci make A.M. Stereo receivers.

I'm thinking an all-Bruce Kelly format could work on 1440. Definitely at 5KW days, and maybe even making mince meat of other "high-powered" ancient modulation stations with the measly 52w at night. Think about it - 50,000 watt KMIK vs 52 watts of BK at night! Radio Disney can have New Zealand - I'd endure the static on Buckeye for Bruce. Although the hi-fi smooth jazz sounds on 1230 might be some stiff competition. Discuss.
