A day in the life of a lamptimer

It's got KDKB HD-2 for the two listeners who can't put up with Ancient Modulation 8)

Any voice tracking on the laptimer?

You mean

"...now from the summer of '67, here's our man Van Morrison singin' about going horizontal behind the stadium with a Brown Eyed Girl. Whoa....talk about Bang 545!"

No.

The laptimer just does sweepers, jingles, Bollywood music, food talk and 14 worn-out oldies in a row. Anything more would require catfish (lower case c) to re-program the laptimer.

Do they at least exchange one oldie out of the rotation every 6 mos. ;D

A translator?

From English to Spanish?

They could play the Spanish covers of all the 50's and 60's US hits that were done in Mexico.

Maybe you did not mean that kind of translation. ::)

Oops. That is what happens when you turn a dyslexic like myself loose on the lamptimer board.

I yield to the bored. ;D

Shirley, you jest!

Wassup with the out of phase "Heat Wave" by Martha and the Vandellas on Lumberyard 14~Forty? Nurse Jeff and I've repeatedly told the Goldminers to use only mono mixes to satisfy Gumpdusky's requirement for worn-out oldies. Ancient Modulation was founded on the belief that only the truth comes from one speaker. Stereo is nothing more than pure heresy.

Roger, Rodger?

Yep, Martha and the Vandella's have been out of phase for quite some time. Apparently the new "Turgi-Mod 6000" processor and phase chaser we installed at the lumberyard cannot compensate for the problem. I'll call Berry Gordy and his band of rhythmic trolls to ask wattsup with the phase problem.

I bet they got the CQUAM out of phase. With the sterreoo pilot turned off. It's the L-R R-R R-L......oh never mind. It's a Kahn system ;D

Tsk Tsk, Poor Leonard recently became defunct and took the fiery chariot ride to the sky. We must not speak ill of the dead.

The Nurse and I can't figure out what catfish (lower case c) has done to the processing at Lumberyard 14~Forty. Some worn out oldies with high modulation peaks cause distortion, while everything produced by Phil Spector sounds just fine. Odd - the Wall of Sound is synonymous with distortion. ???

And wassup with "Under My Thumb" by the Stones in rotation? Are the Goldminers sending Mrs Gumpdusky a message?

Hey Doc, it's the source material. Some selections are of poor quality and cannot handle the degree of processing being applied. Other selections like Phil Spector's creations are of better quality and play well.

What really counts is the processing sounds good on the paid talk shows that air on the station. Those talk shows bring in revenue. It is revenue that is important. We like revenue. We like revenue a lot.

The distortion wasn't there prior to the automation crash a couple of weeks ago. But who knows, if you're wearing a fez atop your noggin' 24/7 (not to be confused with smog in your noggin'), then anything could happen...or be heard!

Glad to hear you like revenue a lot. Hopefully this means more paid talk shows as Lumberyard 14~Forty is certainly capable of competing better in the colon-blow arena of Ancient Modulation ;)

you need on oval 6 x 9 dash mounted speaker to appreciate the WOS wall of sound.

I wonder how Phil Spector is enjoying his stay at the gray bar hotel? Wasn't he sentenced to stay there until time to check into the mahogany Hilton?

In 2028 he's eligible for parole. Nurse Jeff ran the numbers and that year will be the 65th anniversary of Da Doo Ron Ron. Now the question becomes...will Lumberyard 14~Forty still be playing that worn out oldie in 2028?

YIKES!

So how's the processing on the Lamptimer's HD signal? Back to mono™, distorted, weirdly phasey or glorious stereo?

Pssst...don't tell catfish, but some retro-thinking engineers have figured out the Wall of Sound. It's easily replicated using a RCA 77DX muffed with a couple of Phil's fright wigs and a pair of men's Jeggings®.
