A day in the life of a lamptimer

While our fave errrant lamptimer continues with its plus :11 daily drift
(now almost 4:30 late), Gumpdusky did otherwise reset the KAZG up
and off times for November specs:

Saturday October 31:

On at 6:04:12 AM with...PSRA?...52 watts? Signal was very weak.
No ID at or anywhere near the carrier pop-on. Power up at 6:34:12 AM
to 5 kw. Carrier dumped at 6:04:17 PM (there was a TOH ID from the
music automation at 6:02:54).

Sunday November 1 (daytime = 7:00 AM-5:30 PM):

On at 6:04:23 AM with the same "PSRA" power. (No ID, PA show was
JIPped.) PA show ended at 7:01, segue to TOH legal ID at 7:01:13,
then started the music automation. Power up to 5 kw at 7:04:23.
Carrier dumped (no ID) at 5:34:28 PM.

The lamptimer is no longer running 4:45 or so late. After power up from
PSRA/52 watts/whatever, to five gallons at 7:04:45 AM, it was reset
during the day today, as Lumberyard 1440 was already off the air at
5:29:30 PM.

A question for the Gumpduskers...now that sign-off is at 5:30, why not
stay on with your PSSA/52 watts/whatever, until 6:00 PM? Maybe our
insider buddy catfish (with a "C") can take this up with the folks at the
Londen Tower and post a response.

The Gumpduskers claim they can't go below 500w with their current state of the ark xmttr, so there's no way they can use their 100 PSSA authorization after 5:30pm. So let's ask catfish (with a "C") if that xmttr can knock 10 watts off the 500w it can do as December's PSRA (6a-7:30a) is only 490 watts. If they can't do it, then we'll have to wait until 7:30am to hear Lumberyard 14~Forty. Life is so unfair for the Valley's last daytimer!

Tonight when the lamptimer dumped carrier--at exactly 5:30:00 PM
no less (ah, wait till tomorrow, it'll be :11 later ;D)--the song on air
was Laughter In The Rain by Neil Sedaka, from early 1975.

1975? On Lumberyard 1440? What's next, a "That 70s Weekend"?

I'm not sure we can have a 70s weekend* on two oldies/classic hits
stations at the same time. I'll have the Doc run this through his
Akbarizer computer and send the results to Gumpdusky and PD Kris.

*: Yes, it's another That 70s Weekend on 94.5 KOOL-FM! ::) Still
nothing inventive or exciting coming out of the "KOY Building."

What's the rest of the hour(s) look like?

Would you settle for a half-hour log of the Goldmine? No Kookie (or My Way)...

4:31 Western Union - Five Americans
4:33 Ain't That Peculiar - Marvin Gaye
4:36 This Magic Moment - Jay & the Americans
4:39 Good Lovin' - Young Rascals
4:42 Build Me Up Buttercup - Foundations
4:45 (stopset)
4:46 Be My Baby - Ronettes
4:48 I'm Into Something Good - Herman's Hermits
4:51 Crystal Blue Persuasion - Tommy James & the Shondells
4:55 The Tracks Of My Tears - Miracles
4:58 A World Without Love - Peter & Gordon
5:00 (legal ID)
5:00 Oh, Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison
5:03 Liar, Liar - Castaways

Great mix! "Good Lovin'" was sooo much better done by The Olympics.

No need to fire up the Akbarizer 3000 on this one: Laughter In The Rain is another personal favorite of Mrs Lumberyard. And don't be surprised if they drag Me and Mrs Jones, Mrs Jones, Mrs Jones , etc out of the All Day Goldmine!

Wouldn't those tunes be more applicable to KCEE? (see Tucson board)

I had Nurse Czarina Jeff run today's KCEE playlist http://www.690kcee.com/playlists.php?date=2009-11-07 thru the Akbarizer 3000 and he couldn't find a match on Edd "Kookie" Byrnes. However the Nurse Czarina tells me he hasn't heard so many musical train wrecks since Twice 103~Five!

btw ... if KCEE can stay on at night with 3.2 watts, how come Lumberyard 14~Forty can't manage to do it with 52 watts?

I'm guessing 3.2 watts is their Internet pow-pow-power.

Notice those long stopsets during The Positive Side of Sports? Quite a contrast to the one unit per four stops an hour Gumpdusky does during Goldmine hours. At the thought of being sent to a Payson sweat lodge, Nurse Czarina Jeff and I think the highest and best use for Lumberyard 14~Forty does not lie in playing burned out oldies. Bring on the Colon Blow!

Alert! There's been another "Kookie, Kookie, Lend me Your Comb" sighting today on the Lumberyard. The sighting mysteriously occurred at 4:17 P.M. and ended at 4:19 P.M. It was followed by the Tempting Temptations with "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" and was preceded by the Rolling Stones. Stay tuned as we keep you updated on this strange occurrence!

If anyone is brave enough to create a KAZG bumper sticker, I'll take one! My starting bid is 51 cents. I can see the bumper sticker now, "KAZG Happens!"

The one Nurse Czarina Jeff and I like best is: KAZG Doesn't Keep You Up At Night!

Lamptimers rule!

KAZG has a "Kookie" playlist!

At KAZG, it's "My Way" or the highway!

We sing "KAZG Scottsdale" only when we feel like it!

I like all those suggestions. Someone call up Forrest Gump and let’s get those bumper stickers made!

Btw, today the Lumberyard signed off at 5:31 and 28 seconds P.M. MST. Gene Chandler was saying “Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke of…” and then the lamptimer kicked in, 11 seconds later than yesterday. I wonder what “Duke” Gene Chandler was talking about? The last full song played was “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” by Eric Burdon and the Amazing Animals. That was pretty prophetic by the DOS computer over at the lumberyard!  :)

Did you know that there was another Kookie sighting this morning BEFORE sunrise? Believe it or not, "Kookie, Kookie, Lend me Your Comb" aired this morning at 6:50 A.M. while the Lumberyard was still using their pre-sunrise authorized power. What a great way to wake-up and start your day!

When KAZG is using this reduced power during the 6:00 A.M. hour, there is a lot of interference here in Gilbert and if you position your radio just right, you can pick up 1440 KNIF Santa Maria, California instead of our beloved Goldmine. I'm all for the Goldmine pulling a KFNN and powering up to full power early so Kookie comes in loud and clear before that sun comes up!  ;D

Also, for all you KAZG fans, I've had to defend our beloved Lumberyard over on another radio board. This time, it involves those XM satellite radio snobs who for some reason really like to rip on our Lumberyard! Check it out, funk soul brothers! http://xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=98385&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=1485

Actually it's KUHL, Santa Maria, that wreaks skywave havoc on Lumberyard 14~Forty. You'd think with 1kw aimed primarily at el Pacifico http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KUHL&service=AM&status=L&hours=N it wouldn't bounce into the Valley as well as it does on these dark mornings. The Nurse Czarina and I wonder if KUHL has pulled a page out of the KFuNN operating manual and goes full power at 6am ???

I had a "Kookie" moment last week as I returned home from work at 8AM and my part 15 ran "Lend Me your Comb" as I was driving into the neighborhood. Like, I hadda pipe in a new wavelength cause I was shook. Baby, you really need to call the lumberyard and request them to play "Kookie's Mad Pad". Stereophonic telephone, Wall-to-wall television? Plaid lightshades, Overstuffed couch with feathers from Birdland! You'll know ginchy when Dreamsville creams outta your dashboard, Daddy-O.

So THAT'S the song!! I heard it played on 1440 almost a year ago. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what the song was, because all I remembered was the "overstuffed couch" part (and try Google searching with only that).

Only time I've ever heard it, anywhere, but I don't listen to 1440 religiously like ASU George.

Thought the song was so stupid. Maybe that's why I've only heard it once. Stick with hits.
