A day in the life of a lamptimer

BTW, I didn't catch last Sunday morning, but KAZG was still on air at 7:25
Sunday evening, so even with lamptimer drift it appears they again were a
day late resetting for August sign-on/off times.

There is something to be said for operating on Lumberyard Standard Time ;) And just think...in another three months we'll be commenting on KFuNN 15~Ten blowing past their power down time to accomodate one of their paid programs. FM just isn't as quirky as Ancient Modulation!

We Gremlined up to Flag Friday afternoon (Nurse Jeff wants to check out those beefy Cards at practice) and our fezes were blown away as Lumberyard 14~Forty came boomin' in! Must be raining where the goldminers are to cause the ground system to radiate that 5kw of music pow-pow-power 145 miles north of Ponderosa Lumber. Think we should ask the Gumpdusky CE for a QSL card? This has got to be record for the last Valley daytimer!

Another long distance Goldmine listener report - on the way to San Diego on Monday the 2nd KAZG was coming in to the west of Tacna (where?), on I8 - according to goggle maps, 151 driving miles, not air miles. Just past Tacna it became un-listenable and the Rickity one was bummed.

No wonder Gumpdusky won't sell Lumberyard 14~Forty...it's a Flamethrower!

The Lumberyard 14~Forty inflatable solid gold ore cart will be in front of a the Ranch House Restaurant this Friday 8/20 from 11a-1p. While the goldminers won't be there, Don & Kim of the cooking show will and are ready to answer questions, like: bleached or unbleached flour? where do you buy a coal burning stove? and how come KAZG isn't on at night? If we're really lucky, the cookin' deejays will give us a tour of the gold mine xmttr site, which is only eight blocks away. Nurse Jeff and I can hardly wait!

Is that from the same company that made your inflatable giant fez?

Do they also make inflatable Hindenburg replicas? We'd need one if
we can ever get Les Nessman for a remote from Tower Plaza! ;D

Hey, isn't tomorrow (Wed) September 1st? The goldmine will be operating with 500 watts at 6am, but 15 minutes later they'll kick out the jams with 5kw! Sorry to say we'll lose them at 6:30pm in September....but hey, this is Gumpdusky and that means for the next couple of days they'll be using August times on the Lamptimer.

Not so fast there, fez wearer!

The yet-to-be reset lamptimer kicked on the old Ampliphase this morning at 5:47:57,
and with the full daytime 5 kw to boot.

Did that include a legal ID? Nope, at least not until the automation played one in
the TOH cycle at 6:02:28.

Gumpdusky motto: "We're a day late and proud of it!" :D

If you guessed Lumberyard 1440 signed off tonight at 6:33:04, you'd be......not even close!

Are you kidding, it's only the first day of the month. It will be at least tomorrow before the
lamptimer shuts down the Goldmine at anywhere near the correct time.

BTW, if you had 7:18:04 in tonight's sign off time pool, bingo! I don't know if there is a
prize--you'll have to ask Gumpdusky. ;)

Obviously the Goldminers are celebrating Rock'nRoll 12~Sixties decision to leave the format and give Gumpdusky a lock on worn out oldies. Yes indeedy, they are partying like it's 1969!

Thursday morning (September 2) there was no PSRA (or night power) utilized
for the 6-6:15 quarter hour. The carrier popped on with 5 kw at 6:18:09 AM.
And at this point, if you have to ask if there was a legal ID, then you haven't
been paying attention! ;D

I didn't hear the carrier dump this evening, however KAZG was already off the
air at 6:40 PM, so let's guesstimate the lamptimer did its thing in the vicinity
of the monthly mandated 6:30...or more likely 6:33-something.

The Goldminers went on a Motown Meltdown Tuesday night, and the Gremlin was rockin' to the beat in Buckeye: Standing In The Shadows of Love , Four Tops; What Becomes of the Broken Hearted, Jimmy Ruffin; Where Did Our Love Go?, Supremes; and Twistin the Night Away, Sam Cooke. The fab four songs on 14~Forty made Nurse Jeff and me almost forget Katy Perry's California Gurls video. Almost.

:D

What on earth has the nurse got you watching? MTV?

Oh wait. If they played music videos.

Lousy song, but a great vid on Utube. Of course we're referring to the attire of Snoop Dog and not the creative use of Reddi-Whip

Speaking of the Lumberyard, how long will the simulcast of Culinary Confessions on both 1440 AM and Trailerpark 1260 / no-power 96.1 FM last? This show I actually don't mind being on the Lumberyard since it seems to cater to an older crowd (who already love those nuggets from the Goldmine!) and is very unique. The morning sports show "The Positive Side" is one that makes little to no sense on the Goldmine. But, with this simulcast, is Sandusky actually thinking of giving it back to Jeffry O'Brien and Company since NBC 1260 has become a resurrection of sorts of Independent Radio 1310 KXAM? Inquisitive minds want to know! ???

If you were Mr. & Ms. Culinary and had a choice of one entity or the other, would you
rather have your show broadcast on this signal:
http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KAZG&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

Or this (primary) signal:
http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KBSZ&service=AM&status=L&hours=D
Plus this (secondary) signal:

For the first time since April, the Lumberyard is using, once again, their night-time signal to power on a little early this morning. Sign-on occurred the same as it did all Winter long last year around 6:00 A.M. At 6:19 A.M. and 29 seconds, 1440 KAZG powered up to the full day-time signal. Proof once again that the night-time signal indeed does work and could be used all-night if Sandusky wanted to. ???

As opposed to the "a day late and a dollar short" that we grow accustomed to when they adjust the monthly sunset sign-off time, this low-power pre-sunset sign-on was "a week late and a hundred dollars short!" ;D

Actually they're using their pre-sunrise power of 500 watts between 6 and 6:15am this month (okay, the lamptimer is four minutes off). As our good friend Catfish (with a small c) keeps telling us, Gumpdusky does not own a transmitter at the Lumberyard capable of running at 52 watts.

Yeah, but did they legally ID themselves at sign-on?

With the lamptimer being over four minutes late, once the carrier popped on
it was probably even too late for the TOH ID in the automation system.

So it was very likely there was no "KAZG Scottsdale" until around 7 AM--
unless they messed that up in the handoff from the Goldmine to jock talk.
That's OK though, sometimes at the end of the food show I've heard two
legal IDs. I'm sure that makes up for it! ;D

Because Lumberyard 14~Forty is licensed to Scottsdale, home of mucho Canadian snowbirds in the winter, it is probably exempt from legal ID requirements. All that's needed north of the border are call letters and no stinkin' city of license (CKLW...The Motor City). Nurse Jeff and I don't think anyone confuses KAZG with a lame Apache Junction station that recently moved to the west's most midwestern city*.
