boston business journal says 30 people got axed at wbz yesterday. this is just a beginning of the major overhaul at 4. if they replace williams with wade and that's probably where this is going, i still won't watch them.

Doubtful. Williams re-upped in '06 and I would assume it's a long-term contract -- probably five years. The 11pm is doing better than it has in many years. They're not going to mess around with that. Mornings are key now.

The layoffs in Boston aren't as bad as they have been with other CBS-owned stations. WBBM/Chicago let go their principal news anchor, a news anchor/reporter and a sports anchor yesterday. WCBS/New York has cancelled their Sunday night sports show. KTVT/Dallas let go of what some estimate as 60 people. Thirty seems to be the high-end estimate, with the low-end at twelve. I'm sure more details will emerge today and tomorrow.

you're sugarcoating their problems. they lose many number of 25-54 viewers from a very strong cbs' prime-time line-up. so they have more viewers than 5 or 25 at 11pm but they're older. great. see how well they can sell to the ad agencies?! plus, 11pm also serves as a lead-in for morning news shows. people generally wake up to the same news show they watched the night before.

4 can only slash costs for so long before they get to their talent. the real issue is their evening newscast ahcnors don't bring in the desireable demos. they're just buying a little more time before the much-needed shake-up takes place at the anchor desk.

even if williams got a new deal when he replaced binswagger at the start of 06, it doesn't necessarily preclude management from shifting him to another weekday daypart or weekend. you don't know what his contract stipulations are. plus, the guy is already pushing mid 60's. how much longer does he really want to be in the game? they're definitely grooming wade to be the next 4 anchorman. it will happen sooner rather than later.
