A decent change at WKNR...

It actually happened a few months ago. Bob Karlovec, long-time Browns beat reporter for WKNR/850, was tabbed to become the full-time host for the Indians postgame "10th Inning" show. In addition, he now is also the primary fill-in for both Greg Brinda and Kenny Roda.

Bob's literally been at WKNR since the beginning (at AM/1220) in late 1990. He told my source that he's happy about the move because it's a permanent gig - but is slightly melancholy since it means he will no longer be the working the Browns beat every day. Bob's helped Mike "Catan" Catanzarite get his feet wet as beat reporter; Neil Bender will also assist in like duties.

As soon as the Indians season ends, Bob will be back on the Browns beat for WKNR. I like the move, personally. Bob's very articulate and thoughtful on the air, and he's a good show host. Couldn't feel better for him.

Being articulate and thoughtful in no way makes you a good talk show host - at what point will WKNR take notice that radio people are in the business of ENTERTAINMENT. Bob's a nice guy...i've met him, terrific individual, informative beat reporter...and terribly boring, vanilla, drab talk show host. I always use the same litmus test to gauge entertainment value and whether a radio show fits the bill. Does someone call their friend or ask their co-worker "Did you hear what _____ said on the radio this morning?? That was funny/sad/creative/interesting/gutsy...etc." People say that about Rush/Howard Stern/Triv/Drennin/Les Levine/Opie and Anthony. They most certainly do not say that about Bob Karlovec...or 99% of the working staff at WKNR.
