what does the future of hd mean for pirate radio. i say going digital is the fcc's way to eliminate the pirate broadcasts by changing the frequency and transmission method.

i cannot see pirates going hd too and after radio is all digital will anyone have the old analog radios to listen to these pirate analog broadcasts

picking on dabomb a little here

when 2008 rolls around and tv has abandoned their current spectrum will you create a pirate tv staion to entertain us.

** if you stay analog the only thing you will hear free 20 years from now will be DABOMB doing his pirate radio show ** and then it will be real easy for the fcc to give him a visit since they will be the only ones listening.

today there is no way for pirate broadcasts to break into the direct tv or xm streams so in the future there will be no way for them to reach an audience.<P ID="signature">______________

Actually, IBOC was the result of all the major broadcast groups of the 80's trying to kill the Eureka DAB system (as used in Europe and Canada) here in the US. Eureka gives everyone the same power output. The companies who owned the 50KW AM stations and 100KW FM stations didn't want to switch to a level playing field.

CCS, I don't think that pirate radio would be negatively affected at all. If your theory proves to be true, and all analog radio moves to digital, leaving the analog wide open, why would the FCC even bother to get involved? If there is nothing to interfere with besides each others pirate broadcasts, who are the pirates hurting besides themselves? Even if this is the case, we are talking 30 years down the road like you stated in the thread below. I personally don't see analog radio going away. Much like what was said about AM radio when FM came to fruition, and AM radio is still around...here in the 21st century.

By the way, how is west Houston's rock station doing? Is "The Rock" still in pebble mode? We miss you over at RockAid. ;)
