A dire prediction

How many of you have seen "The Running Man," with
Ah-nult as a contestant on a sadistic game show; if
he can avoid the "Stalkers" who are out to kill him for
three hours, he will go free from a trumped-up charge
that he killed a group of innocent people in Bakersfield.
And Richard Dawson is the sadistic host who hopes
Ah-nult does get killed.

I had a chance to watch that movie again over the
weekend on one of the Encore channels. At the rate
reality shows are going, is it too much of a stretch to
think that someday a producer will put this show on
for real? Think about it.

Reality television has never managed to reclaim the depths it did years ago with "Queen For A Day." "Moment of Truth" came close, though.

"Moment Of Truth" sounds more like the short-lived
1976 ABC daytime show "Hot Seat." I'm wondering
if anyone would be crass enough to put on a game
show where the contestant's freedom (not to mention
his or her life) is on the line, as in "The Running Man."
Somehow I just can't get the possibility out of my head.

IMHO, the day we do begin dispensing justice through
a game show, civilization is finished. I hope "The Running
Man" stays sci-fi/fantasy.
