A DISTANT CATCH FROM UTAH

Last night, I was able to catch a couple of Utah radio stations roughly at 9PM MDT, from my home in the mountains of central Mexico, 2 1/2 hours north of Mexico City. I heard 570 KNRS, briefly with its TOH ID, under a station out of Morelia, Michoacan. I was also able to hear the Nightside Project on KSL AM, 1160 (50kw) with its newsbreak and subsequent commercial (Shane Company). I was shocked being over 2,000 miles away, but it was a good night for DX on my car radio (Sony 2008 vintage).

Sounds cool! If only the average person could appreciate the feeling we get from hearing distant radio stations.

Hey, I'm now wondering. There's mostly Gulf between where you are and Florida. There are two stations right here in Tampa, 5kw and 5.6 kw respectively that are directed your way out into the Gulf. Could you possibly check some night to see if you could hear these?

Can you ever get any Chicago stations in Mexico? Years ago in my travels down there I could get them well--WLS 890 & WBBM 780 especially. However, with all the clutter on the frequencies now I wonder if they ever still make it down there?

I hope you sent KSL a reception report.

But, even more, I wish you had called in to the "Nightside Project" :D .
