A "Dove" Flying into ABQ?

This swapping signal thing...Look how bad that turned out for AGM with KLVO. Same disaster When I worked in Knoxville. It is dumb enough to happen I guess, but I don't see it. Makes for a nice thread
 
This whole thing looks like either stunt or spoof (and I can't tell which). When was the last time in any focus group that somebody said "Play more Liberace". Go to the LA board and ask David about media buys and demographics for this format. Looks at what is happeneing to the closest format - Smooth Jazz - across the country. It is dieing. Much as I'd like to have a new format, I don't see this happening for real.
 
Keep in mind, also, that 933thedove.com was registered by an outside company. Citadel's domains are usually registered to an address in Nevada. I suppose it's possible that they're parking the domain with an outside vendor so no one will know who registered it, but why would it go live so soon if they were trying to hide their plans?
 
They could do a bit more research for their music choices on the website and learn the correct spelling for "Edelweiss".

Maybe the focus groups needs to re-focus. This no stunt or spoof this is smart. why go running to David has he ever programmed this format ???, alot of people quote buys and demographics, to downplay this format ...you don't have to go to LA he reads the New Mexico site. This will happen and it will fly, because no one else is doing it, but of course the library and mix has to be good...I wonder who is programming it. They won't be battling Magic too much, Magic is younger,This has worked here for years, even if it was on AM. This is not even close to smooth Jazz, there may be a few Jazz pieces, what the heck, they cross over too-ya know...Desiafinado, Take Five , This masquerade, Satin Doll, Soft Summer breeze, .....and by the way, Liberace was great...even making a movie of his life starring Michael Douglas coming to your town soon.

I believe that to paraphrase David (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the demographic for this type of programming skews 55+ and no agency will buy 55+. Which is why classical and smooth jazz are going the way of the dodo on commercial radio.

BTW, I would like that type of programming (except maybe Liberace) but it ain't going to happen.

Saul is trying something similar in LA on 'retro 1260' but I haven't looked to see how that experiment is going.
 
I have been hearing some nice comments about the Dove format across the country, and am very anxious to hear this local station. Don't let Annie (Kathy Bates) hear your comments about Liberace, you remember what she did to Paul Sheldon (James Caan).

Yes you quoted David accurately......but, there are alot more younger listeners than you and David think, for that format. Go to a Buble concert, It ain't the AARP crowd.

As far as success, again I say no one is doing this format locally, so the numbers might surpise us all. Listening to a pretty cool station Swing1270am, out of Buffalo as we speak.
