A dumb question

Just curious. Does anyone think an all-news radio station can work in Hartford? I'm talking a mix of local and national news, not plugging in the FOX News Channel 24/7 like WNTY did for 3 months from December 2001-February 2002.

No. It would take too much money to run and with the lousy business/advertising climate in the state, profitability would be a big challenge. The only company operating in this state that might even take the chance is CBS, and they're happy with WTIC the way it is. Turning it all-news would drive off the Vicevich and Limbaugh fans. Blowing up one of its music FMs to go all-news would be cannibalization.

Clear Channel? Saga? Cumulus? Cox? Buckley? Marlin? Splurge on local news? That's a laugh.

No, I agree, it would probably have to be some sort of news/talk station. All-news in AM/PM drive time would probably work but talk the rest of the day, although I admit the idea is highly intriguing.

Is there any radio station in CT that provides 24/7 traffic reports? I frequently travel from the NYC area to the Hartford area, often at night, and it's nearly impossible to get a traffic report for I-84 (from Danbury to Hartford). Occasionally WCBS will cover I-84 if it's something very major, but that's about it. WTIC AM seems to stop doing reports after 6:30pm.
