A EARLY 1320 QUESTION

Yep WGMA was a Middle of The Road music station with 1,000 watts of power non directional daytime only. Studios were on the ground floor of the Hollywood Beach Hotel at Hollywood Blvd and A1A. The transmitter was on Stirling Road and State Road 7 (or US Highway 441 if you like). WGMA was owned by a group of local Hollywood businessmen headed by C.Edward Little. This group appied for and got FCC approval to go 24 hours with a directional 5,000 watt signal. The transmitter site was moved to what was called Sheridan Street and Palm Avenue even though Sheridan Street didn't go out that far back then (it does now).

At one time WGMA was owned by Barry and Enwright who were involved in the famous "Quiz Show Scandal". I assume the FCC found their character to be lacking after that and they were probably forced to sell WGMA.

WGMA by the way stood for Greater Miami Area.
