A Fantasy,I Ever applied for a PD job

Let me get one thing straight right now.I NEVER want to be a PD.Too much stess in a job like that.I don't like dealing with B-S.I've had chances at PD jobs in the past,I've passed on them.I can't deal with stress.I will NEVER EVER be a PD.Because I don't want to be a PD.NEVER EVER,PERIOD.But,I can fanatasize,no stress involved there and IF I were to be a PD,which I will never want to be,it would probably be a CHR.Now,if I ever applied for a CHR PD job, which I will never do unless hell freezes over and Osama Bin Ladin sleeps with the Bush twins,I would make sure that I had a free hand, and total autonomy and authority (translation,I would NOT be taking direction from any other company "suits",both on and off the property)Because in some situations, you get these imcomptitent morons as PDs who blindly take orders from the "suits" who probably don't have a frickin' clue how to program anyway, and have to get permission from the "suits" just to go take a piss and and end up being a slave to the "suits" and bring your station's ratings down to the toilet, which would cause the GM to fire that PD and bring in a new PD to "fix" things, and the smart PD would make it clear that "it's my way or the highway",in other words, all the other "suits" that were involved are "potted plants".Because,if that "fixer PD" left, the exiled "suits" would be hovering around like hungry vultures trying to get thier "authority" back.(Translation, they hope the GM hires some "dummy" they can "push around")That's the only way to do it right. So,If I ever was offered a PD job, that's the way I would handle it.But,I don't ever want to be a PD,so it'll never happen,to me.And I'm fine with that.A fantasy is a s far as I want to go.So if YOU'RE ever offered a PD job someplace in the world, make sure you REALLY HAVE TOTAL AUTHORITY OVER YOUR DEPARTMENT,because if you don't,all you're gonna be a glorified clerk.Because the "suits" you so blindly trusted will blame any station failures on YOU!!!!(It's called CMA."coverin' my ass")

your missive certainly suggests the maturity and temperance of a successful radio manager.

On the flip side...

...unless you're a certified programming genius, usually its good to listen to the "suits" every now and then. Remember that its the "suits" that call the shots and have an idea about what kind of audience they want to reach and since the PD works for the suits, the PD has to understand what the "suits" want. One has to remember that the "suits" don't necessarily have to know all the tricks of programming since its their responsibility to generate sales and turn a profit. They hire PDs to put out a product the suits can sell and if they don't, they don't last no matter how brilliant they may be as programmers. Any PD that takes the attitude that its his/her way or the highway, had better understand that the success of the station hinges as much on its sales and promotions staffs as it does with its operations staff so the PD must be a good team player and much know how programming, sales and promotion work together. PDs with huge egos that don't play well with others generally don't last long.

Granted, there are "suits" out there who don't have a clue (PDs too) but from my observation the worst programmers are the ones who believe they know it all and refuse to listen to the "suits" (and they're generally the ones who need to listen to the "suits" the most). Good programmers are never afraid to listen to the "suits" because they know that the "suits" just might know what they're doing and will have good ideas every now and then.

Someone's got some issues.

Now, I'm quite sure you won't be applying for a PD job...if only because The Quote Store keeps you well supplied in "quotation marks", so they must pay you well.
