A few AM observations

While visiting the state capital this week, I noticed:
1) KTAR appears to have turned off their HD digital noise generator which polluted every channel from 600 to 640. Any idea why? Looks like the only AM stations in the valley that are stilll transmitting IBOC are those owned by Cheap Channel and Radio Disney.
(About a year ago Citadel dumped HD on all the AM and FM stations they own in Arizona.)

2) ASU appears to have a low power station on 1330 which has a horrendous hum problem. You'd think that such a large institution of higher learning would have an engineer who would know what needs to be grounded.

3) The new Catholic station on 1310 has audio distortion that rivals the distortion that they preach.

This is a forum about RADIO. Please keep your religious observations to yourself.

Stereo will save AM. HD will save AM. Nothing will save AM.

Sorry, all the dough is going to new buildings and Michael Crow. Anyway, please refer to Item #1

Someone once suggested they were purposely over modulating to get that crappy signal out further. Yeah...and the lack of a real rear seat helped sell more Gremlins!
