a few days late..but,

OCT 10, 1995 ( ten years ago ) at 10pm.

am640, switch from the music-interactive-news-talk..
to just "talk" Some call it the start of am640-mojo..etc,etc..

but i call it the end of am640 !!! I still when/where i was
listening to it in my car...vey sad.

i remembered the day of to post it ..but thought i would hold off to
see if any one else would post it. (plus it took some research
to verify it was 1995 : ) can u believe it has been ten years already

now that am 640 has tried talk..any chance to going
back to a music-friendly format ?

input..welcome..it wont be much of a board with out it !

The odd thing is the T-shirts they gave away said "Voice activated October 11th 1995" and "Radio that pushes your buttons"

The last song was aired on October 10th just before 10pm, but, I guess the offical ribbin cutting ceremony didn't happen til' the 6 am morning show.

I honestly thought now would be a good time for 640 to be going back to country again...I mean like really...what kind of market research were they doing way back in 1990 that said that Guns and Roses, Poison, ACDC, Van Halen and various other Rockers were in heavier demand ON AM than country music anyway?
I could understand if it were an FM station...BUT AM??????

If anything...they should go back to country...it'd BOTH be better than their current ratings, and more so, the ratings they got as the hog in June of 1990.
plus, because it's tough enough to get people to listen to AM for anything anyway, country may be the only way to go...and it's CHEAPER to run than talk radio is today!

i wish 640 along with 680 would go back to music.......i wonder what they would play if they were to go back to music???

Leave 680 alone. Going all news was the smartest thing they ever could do.
Their ratings couldn't be better.

640 is the one lost at sea.

am 640.

--PS::::that sounds "awesome" -wonder if those shirts are
available ( to look at on the web) or, if any one still has a few--

ALSO: does any one recall the last song ? / I know it! i am just
throwing a trivia question 'out there'

OKAY...
Country Music..on AM ?
It could work esp. in toronto..which has finally dropped the
phony 'image' of the 90s.

But which country ?
Country Gold.
NEW Country..
"hot a/c" country..

I wonder too. The shirts were available for a fair price in...what was the "Beat wear" store located in the old building...the store was really a wall of Q&640 stuff for sale, and apon purchase, payment was made to the recieptionist.

Those who don't know can find the answer at www.rockradioscrapbook.com (scroll down and click on the air good byes section)

Any type of Country that isn't too much of a threat to sister station Country 95.3...but the Legend at 820AM on the dial(er...820 Cham) isn't doing all that well in Toronto or Hamilton...a more talk morning show already apears to be a fact for 820 theese days.

I think the other option for 640 could be to relaunch the original Joe format that launched for a short while in Edmonton. (Joe 880..before fliping back to cool 880, slightly different from the current Joe 92fm there today)
640 could play a variety of music for the average "JOE" that loves mono.
music that isn't just oldies, but indeed anything that was originally recorded in mono.
The new Joe 64 oh sounds good to me.
