A Few Holiday Thoughts

Laughed when I saw a Tim and Bad Dog billboard on Madison Avenue this afternoon as I rolled into downtown. Way to make a clean change Rock 103.

I was listening to Jay Mohr yell at all of his East Coast message board enemies on 680 yesterday. I'm sure that plays well in Raleigh.

Does anyone watch the sports reports on 24? Ari is like a bad nightly stand-up routine instead of a sports report on a newscast.

Great Tennessee victories are not the same without John Ward.

I am tired of AT40 on KIM.

Happy holidays.

How about for a holiday thought..we..all say..Christmas! :) I swear..I saw an article in Parade that said "Are holiday gift cards a good idea?"

I buy Christmas gift cards.

Sorry..this was for radio...uhm..say Christmas on air! :)

Well, there's more than one holiday this time of year. In addition to Xmas, there's Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, and the ever popular Festivus for the rest of us!

So, HOLIDAY is ok, too.....

To quote a recent article in "Collide" magazine, (by Matthew Turner) about this same subject...

"Jesus is the Prince of Peace: do we really think he would spend one moment of time trying to ensure that nativity statues get displayed on public property during the month of December?"

The fake war on Christmas continues to be heralded by people who can amazingly keep a straight face, when doing so. One of these folks said "Every company in America should be on its knees thanking Jesus for being born. Without Christmas, most American businesses would be far less profitable."

(That was likely followed by a 17 second clip of Paris Hilton's "Carl's Jr." TV spot, on the same "news" channel...)

Statements like that, "not only yanked Christ out of Christmas", it also "puts a price tag on him and posts a link on Ebay." Is that what being a Christian is about? Is this even what Christmas is about? Making sure that the word "Holiday" is corrected, everytime it's uttered?

Is it any wonder "Whoville" needed a Grinch? The very people complaining about those who are "Stealing Christmas", are the first to forget it's real meaning. If someone's greeting at Kohl's or Target, (both of whom wished me a Merry Christmas recently) really worth such nonsense? ... And to all, a Good Night... CFKane

The holiday I was talking about is Thanksgiving.

Your fault for not being more specific. :p

I like CFK's post, but all too often I'm still like Peter, looking for a sword so I can chop off more ears.

I like it when people say Merry Christmas... but it doesn't bother me if someone says "Happy Holiday"

after all Holiday comes from the combo "Holy Day" anyway...

If you get mad about someone saying "Happy Holidays" just think for a minute that they may be talking about Thanksgiving, Chirstmas, and New Years all together... They may not be trying to be PC they could simply be lazy...like me... I agree Citizen Kane up there...

Just to confuse people, I like to wish everyone "Happy Holidays" in February. There are some president's birthdays and valentine's day during the month.

I am very comfortable giving out appropriate, culturally-sensitive greetings. Just call me a sentimental softie. So, to all: Happy Holidays!

Now, that being said, and considering our current litigious environment, I should state the following:

This statement of good wishes ("Greeting") from me ("Sender") is intended to be generic in nature. "Holiday" is intentionally left an undefined term. This holiday may include, but not be limited to, Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, New Year's Day, Saturnalia, or even Elvis' Birthday ("Elvis" is a registered trademark of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Memphis, TN). Further, the recipient of this greeting ("Receiver"), may insert his or her own holiday into this Greeting, or no holiday at all, if he or she chooses. If Receiver celebrates no holidays during the intended period of Greeting, assumed to be roughly mid-December through the first week of January, 2008 ("Greeting Period"), he or she may consider Greeting to be general, and a simple wish of good feelings and joy, suitable for any time of year.

Greeting should in no way be construed to guarantee or warrant happiness or other good feelings during Greeting Period, or warrant or guarantee an acceptable holiday. By accepting Greeting, Receiver expressly agrees that he or she assumes the risk for his or her own holiday. Receiver will hold Sender harmless should Receiver's expectations for Greeting Period and wishes contained herein do not coincide.

Greeting is at all times subject to withdrawal by Sender, and it may be canceled or modified at any time, without notice to Receiver. In the event of cancellation, Receiver shall receive no credit or proration for any time left in Greeting Period. Greeting is not intended to be transferable, and has no cash value. Under no circumstances may Receiver in any way alter Greeting, or publish Greeting directly or indirectly without express written permission of Sender. Permission may be withheld for any reason within the sole discretion of Sender, with no rule of reasonableness.

Should Receiver not accept the terms of Greeting listed above, no rights or benefits related to Greeting will accrue.

Should a dispute arise from Greeting, Receiver agrees that jurisdiction and venue will be in the courts of Shelby County, Tennessee. Greeting will be construed under the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to Choice of Law or Renvoy.

Heartwarming, ain't it?!

I have to agree with Meep on this one. That is possibly the best post ever!? CFKane
