A few turn off the stream

A few smaller market urbans not owned by larger companies have recently turned off their streams, likely due to the continuing difficulties of the streaming royalties environment or the economy in general. :'(

These stations include
Mainstream Urban WJTT Chattanooga
Urban AC KOKY Little Rock
Mainstream Urban WFKX Jackson, TX (one of the smallest market urbans that had been streaming)

It is a shame, these are good stations, they all have been streaming on and off for several years as well so hopefully they will return sometime soon. No sign of the large conglomerates - Clear Channel, CBS Radio, Cumulus, Citadel, Radio One and Cox giving up their streams fortunately and they do have streams in many medium to smaller sized markets. Streaming is a big part of the marketing strategy of most large market stations now (finally), I don't see it going away.

The addition at long last of a stream to the website of Hot 97 New York has been noted elsewhere, would love to see WRKS soon. It was not listed on Emmis's list of the rollout of its new streaming player with Stream the World but I would expect it at some point in the not too distant future if Hot 97 has finally joined the club.

Would love to hear Power 106 in Los Angeles as well.

Did a long overdo update of my streaming webpage today. I was pleased to see that very few additional urban stations have turned off their streams recently. There has been a recent trend of some smaller market stations in other formats stopping streaming.

The only new one I caught was WJZD Biloxi.

There were 3 rhythmics: KISV Bakersfield, WKHT Knoxville, KPAT Santa Maria, CA

Most of the smaller market urban stations that were streaming are owned by conglomerates like Cumulus, Citadel and Clear Channel and that is why I think they are still streaming.

I did notice that WQQK Nashville doesn't currently have the streaming link up on its website but the station's Cumulus paper still works:

There is a course a trend of some locally owned urban stations being sold or going bankrupt. WJNZ-AM Grand Rapids may be soon go dark because of bankruptcy and I have heard some rumors about WTMP-AM Tampa.
