A Fitting Send Off

All the best to Mark and his family. He exemplifies intelligence, talent, professionalism and class-qualities I got to see first-hand working with him for the first two years of his long tenure at WBEN. His departure from the scene is a big loss not only for WNED/WBFO but for broadcast journalism as a whole.

Mark, if you're reading this, you should know you will be missed. While I hope the next phase of your life is happy whatever you decide to do, part of me hopes you'll come back to broadcasting once more.

Alas...all the members of the Advanced Training Center Class of '75 are now out of radio, including our distinguished instructor, JustPastBuffalo. But, all-in-all, not a bad run!

How many people getting into radio in '75 would have been thrilled at the idea of a 35-year run?

"Remember I was not a street reporter," he said. "I was a news anchor and worked inside for most of my career. It was only toward the last few months when the change came, and WNED was absorbed into WBFO that I became exclusively a street reporter and covered day-to-day stories.

"They call it merger, but I call it absorption," Leitner continued. "It occurred in March, and I was exclusively a street reporter until my decision to call it a day June 30. I decided not to make it a big thing."
Give this guy credit for speaking his mind. "Absorption." It's curious that he saw it as WNED being absorbed by WBFO, when in reality, WNED was the purchasing entity and the WBFO staffers probably believe is was 88.7 that was being absorbed--- and wrung out like a sponge.

Paul ... I find your remarks rather 'funny'. Not being a member of the ATC Class of '75', although I DID write the curriculum for ATC that was approved by the NYS Education Dept.

Overall, Great job guys! You've made me proud! LOL
