A Florida DJ does his show from Kansas just today

i should clarify, what you said "its true that if" is what i meant, i know darn well that its not getting to the transmitter via an STL like hope thing .. i meant the updates thingy and shouldve calrified.
We don't give out awards for volume of posts. Take a moment and clarify. There's no rush.

@vchimpanzee may simply be surprised that an air personality actually mentioned a location, where much of the time the person doing the VT doesn't let on they're actually doing a VT.
VT is done all the time but no one admits doing it.

I did hear someone who was really convincing about sounding local, talking about his kids' soccer or something like that. But I had reason to doubt he was local.

In 2024, it absolutely doesn't matter, does it?

If what you're hearing on the radio is entertaining and informative, what's the added value in knowing that it's exactly live, or that it's coming from someone sitting in a room one place as opposed to another?

what you fail to understand is... for the most part... many radio listeners dont know radio can do it. often times, we radio people.. and radio fans like you... have a hard time removing what we know form our noggins and thinking like the average person.

When i had the job of giving tours of a station cluster in NW Pennsylvania I worked at... people asked about Big D N Bubba, which studio they work out of, etc.. or somehow or another, they came up in conversation and wed tell the girl scouts and boy scouts or whatever group was on the tour... that big d n bubba who do the morning show are in nashville.... but we have it set so they can do brief talk breaks out of breaks into music or between songs that mention our local news and weather.

Another time i was in a store wearing my station jacket and someone asked me.. which one are you, big d or bubba? And when i told them neither, theyre in nashville.. they were surprised.

We didnt readily admit it, but we didnt lie if asked.

Some of my listeners in WY know im in Alaska.. not many, but some..... and they still listen and enjoy.

Its not so much where the dj is anymore, its.. are they giving the listener what they want?

I don't know if the advertiser knew Eddie Hubbard of the Stardust standards format wasn't really there but he got Hubbard to do a commercial for him. I imagine that was expensive.

I think the DJs who are satellite delivered are more talented than local DJs might be.

most dont, as ive said... when we put the westwood one standards feed on an AM, i spent an entire day putting in and correctly timing the imaging and we ran the automation for a week in studio before putting it to air.. to catch any problems

We got a letter a few months later "thank you to denny heindl (the station owner) for hiring jeff rollins, carl hampton and crew for little ole' saint marys"

No...if it's done right, you shouldn't be able to tell if they're local or not.

Which is the *entire* premise of VT'ing.
An iHeart station where I was listening to Christmas music had an 800 number people were supposed to call to tell about their own experiences and it really sounded like the man was at the station and his callers were from the area. I suppose it could have been listeners from around the country, or someone might have selected the local callers for that station.

The 800 number gives it away; why would (many) markets use an 800 number, when (many) listeners in an FM market are probably able to call the station toll free?

That's just it - Cindy from Nebraska and VChimp from NC can call at any time during that program - and the screener along with the production staff could slot in your comment during the next break.

And those iHeart stations that are carrying the programming play it in 50 different markets in three time zones. Easy.

Please use common sense - why would a station have a toll free number for local callers?
