A Game of No Chance --- can you pick the new PPM rankings???

Ok, there's only so much we can say about Disney and Shack. Next Monday, though they won't get posted, etc., the first hints of the new Nashville PPM data is released. Anyone wanna waste time trying to predict who will rise and fall?

Top Station Overall - was and has been WJXA - after PPM? Better than usual or down a bit?
Second Place - last book went in favor of The Buzz (#2 / strong #'s lots of areas) - after PPM?
Top Country Station - three way tie has to bust someone, though no one will flip. SIX was down a bit last book, so....KDF krankin', Wolf smooth and steady...
Urban Reaction - anyone wanna guess how the #'s will shake out after PPM on QQK and UBT? You know PPM loves this format.
Up in the Air - Fish, Jack, Lightning, WTN, The Zone
The Truth - will the River rise, will the "real PPM" numbers give "i" any listeners?
Dead Last - Well, now. That won't change. Actually it might. It it gets better, it will get changed anyway.

Sorry, couldn't think of anything else to talk about. Last set of old style Arb #'s came out and no one even noticed. Maybe some one will have a little fun with this. I know, it's summer and nap weather. This will help you sleep...

I hope I am wrong! WSM 650 could nose dive. There could be AM / FM “confusion” in the diaries. Why did Gaylord let the WSM calls stay with the FM when they sold it? Better yet, why did they sell WSM FM?

Better yet, why did they sell WSM FM?
Probably the real story won't be told...but, and this is my own theory, Gaylord is a Hotel/Convention company. The FM couldn't add to the business. However, with the opry and Gaylord Opryland Hotel, it can add to getting folks to come to Nashville to the Opry and staying at the hotel. Golf and/or a cruise/party on the General Jackson is built into a package. WSM AM is tied to the Opry. Remember how quickly Gaylord got out of the 'Mall' business? It's all about hotels. I was told years ago that of all 3 radio stations, the 2 satellite channels, the park and hotel, AM was the least prosperous of all the properties for the company. However, they found trying to change the format to sports wasn't very wise. Time has passed and it wouldn't be a surprise to a lot of us if the AM, Opry House and Ryman were all sold together. Just my thoughts

It's my hope that the PPM rankings will shake things up a bit. Radio is more than a bit stale and this could and should help.My bet is more than a few OM's,PD's and GM's have lost some sleep over them.

Attempting to guess the upcoming PPM results is tantamount to predicting the return of Christ. As far as the question " why Gaylord sold WSM-FM and WWTN?", all of what Buddy related plus the selling price of $65 million dollars. It fit real nicely into the cash needed to complete the Gaylord Texan without further leverage. From a business standpoint, it was a good move.

Heck Watt -- you, Chris and Buddy could have pulled your 401Ks together, paid your fees, taxes and penalty, given Dave Ramsey a few million as a gift and still bought WSM-FM and WWTN-FM for about $70M cash. They missed their chance.

Good thing is it cost Calculuss $5M in losses every year. The bell will eventually toll.

I didn't say you had to even be remotely right to play PPM 2010. Heck, if someone nails it 30%, they cheated in advance...

Like this response I received to my messages.

Safest bet: WJXA will stay #1. Don't think we'll see any immediate country changes. In other PPM cities, Urban usually dropped some.

I still have a hard time with small sample groups supposedly representing everyone. Most usually, sample groups are built on demographics such as gender, age, zip, and income. But how do you account for taste? What if they nail their demographics and still don't get fans of a certain music genre? Or what if they don't get sports fans? That would cook The Zone. But what if they do screen to find sports fans... does that unfairly elevate The Zone? I just don't see how measuring agencies justify things in the end.

That's a "no." Old style numbers will continue to come out until Fall period. This first go-round with PPM is released to stations only to allow them an "adjustment period" until the actual battle begins.

Gaylord actually "leases" the calls to Cumulus for the FM. The calls still belong to Gaylord.

I have a different understanding than jetfli. We are in a pre-currency period for the first two months. When the third month arrives in October, that will be the first time PPM info can be used for sales purposes. Essentially a book from a three-month average. This will be the summer ratings period and PPM numbers. There are no more old-style numbers, as I understand it. The battle has been joined.

Jet -- sorry was meaning to say that the last, as in latest, ratings that came out were not even discussed on here. Yeah, Monday's going to be an interesting day in Nashville radio station offices. I'm sure someone
will throw a few tidbits out here as to what the results are. Let's just say, from that point on, somethings will either get very interesting or nada. Hmm! Oh, and thanks for playin. You safe with that Mix #1 bet? :)

TruThthingy dude pretty much says whats happening with PPM. Monday's just a sneak preview. Will there be popcorn? I can bring the Gin.

I think you must have me confused with someone else... Now Ole Bud, I'll bet that much money falls out of his pocket into the couch during an afternoon nap!  ;D

Best,
