A Great Weekend on VMFM

Roots of alternative this weekend! I feel like I am reliving the good parts of high school and college - the music! Tons of music I long ago pushed out of my memory! Great Job!

Thank you PAULK01! It's nice to see we finally got a mention here on the big board.

Mike Evans here -- just ONE of the many people behind the inner workings of VM-FM. There really is a great group of people there -- people who never forgot that radio can actually be cool. I've always thought that we are the best kept secret in NEPA -- a super-cool eclectic modern rock that's truly alternative (not that crappy corporate Nickelback-infused brand of alternative).

Turn us on, and we're alternative about 90% of the time. This was the second year in a row we did Roots. Chances are, we'll do it again next 4th of July. This LABOR DAY -- it'll be an all 90's weekend. And if you thought we went "deep" on ROOTS...well, just wait. I think our 90's library alone is about 2500 cuts strong. The entire library (including currents) is well over 7000 titles by now. Nice to know the music geeks have somewhere to go.

Thanks for listening...and tune in Friday evenings from 6p-12a. I'm there most Friday's, and I'm always open to requests (just don't ask for Nickelback).

OKAY I have been out of the loop for a year, I admit---where do I find this hidden gem???

It can be heard in much of Lackawanna County @ 91.7. Back in the 80's, when I started to listen, they could be found @ 91.5. Not sure why it changed.

It changed back around 2005 because of a power increase. VM-FM was always a tiny 100 watt stick. When they went to 2000 watts, they had to move the frequency.

Okay...just a reminder for all of the VM-FM enthusiasts out there. The NEXT great weekend kicks off tomorrow (Friday). It's our ALL 90'S LABOR DAY WEEKEND. It runs from 6pm Friday evening to 10am Tuesday morning -- nothing but 90's alternative for approximately 88 hours straight (Saturday eveining and Sunday morning block programming may still run and "pre-empt" the weekend a bit -- I'm not sure.)

I did the math. If we play approximately 15 songs per hour (give or take), the weekend will consist of approximately 1320 songs. There are at least 2500 90's cuts in the library. Which means you shouldn't hear the same song twice, and you'll only hear a little over HALF of our 90's product. The entire marathon will of course also be commercial free.

Upon its conclusion at 10am on Tuesday morning, I'll be in for the debut of my new weekly show -- VINTAGE VINYL. That'll run every Tuesday from 10am until noon...and that should really satisfy the music geeks out there.

Thanks for listening...EVANS

Mike any chance of a Pod Cast for Vintage Vinyl for those of us who are out of Radio Range and have a boss who will not allow streaming!

Hey Paul...

Thanks for the interest. To be honest, that would be a question for Mark, the technical guru extraordinaire at VM-FM. I would say probably not -- but I'll ask. I actually have the first 30 shows planned out already (two 15-show seasons). I know it's not much consolation, but if you ever want to know what you missed (or will miss), I'd be glad to share the info. I also archive all the shows on MiniDisc. Hey might as well save 'em on a dead format.

I may send Mark Twitter updates as to what will be on the show...so if you follow VM-FM on Twitter, you'll always know what's happening on the next edition. Just ask your boss if you could have two hours a week. It'll be worth it.

Oh well, back to the 90's...Oooo...TEENAGE FANCLUB's on!...EVANS

OH -- IT'S COMING BACK.

ROOTS OF ALTERNATIVE returns to the VM-FM airwaves at 91.7 and to the VM-FM stream at www.vmfm917.org this weekend!

We usually do it on 4th of July Weekend, but there is no 4th of July Weekend this year (the 4th being on a Wednesday).

So beginning Friday at 5pm (5/25/12) and ending sometime very late on Monday evening (or maybe even Tuesday morning), it's nothing but pre-90's alternative. The word "depth" doesn't even begin to describe what you'll hear. Alterna-geeks get ready!!!!!
