A heads-up! South FL pirate on 87.5

I am starting another thread about this, since it's now E-skip season, in case any of you catch Miami area FM.

I want to tell you about a pirate in south FL on 87.5.

They don't run a lotta power, but they seem to be concentrated around University Dr. & Miramar Pkwy (ZIP Code 33023).

Anyway I caught a big break this afternoon as we were riding around at about 1:03 pm in that area, and they did make an announcement. (usually it's just music with brief dead air between tunes.) They can be heard online at:

www.radio-vcs.com

Don't expect a fancy website..... It's mainly music for Haitians, but there is a lot of EE, FF & even pre-Castro 50s Cuban music.

Anyway, even at 1 watt, being on 87.5 you might catch a break---just match with the online stream!

^ In Guatemala & Venezuela, apparently, 87.5 thru 88 are legal. I've heard 3 Guatemalans on that freq, and I believe that 100 watts are the limit:

Stereo Bendicion
Sion FM
Asi Fue Mi Vida Radio

And in Venezuela:

Caribe FM (in Maracaibo)

There was also an 87.5 pirate I heard locally about 2 years ago, but it's gone now.

Interesting indeed.....and ripe for the picking!

Note: I don't think that Radio VCS runs all the time.....it's possible that they pick & choose. However, the online stream will help greatly.

87.5 is far enough from 88Mhz to not cause interference with any licensed stations, but many radios will still pick it up, especially analog tuning ones. But I thought you had a LP analog on channel 6 down there, seems like something on 87.5 would mess with their signal.

I do, at 87.75; the pirate sure doesn't care....we have pirates on adjacent freqs to 100 kW stations! I suppose that .25 MHz off isn't so bad. I hear some bleed from the 87.75 on 87.9, but not so much on 87.5.
