A high quality AM tuner.

Some years ago I designed this AM tuner (it isn't a full receiver as it gives low level audio signal without amplification to an external amplifier). Below some pics, but for a full view of the development of it, please refer to:

It would be very tedious to duplicate here all I did on the tuner. The S-meter is a 0-1mA recovered from a discarded thermometer as it can be seen.

This looks like quite a project!...I have a circa 1980's "GE Superadio" featuring a dual I.F. bandpass AM tuner which in the "Wide" mode recovers the entire audio response (10 kHz) broadcast by stations broadcasting hi-fi audio. This radio plugged into a decent audio system is really good. LA's KMZT 1260 is remarkable!

This tuner has great high frequency sound thanks to the unusual detector an FI RF filtering aproaching the inductor or choke input filter in place of the usual crc filtering. Also the high definition of the filter with the T has sharp RF banwidth limits. During the tests, l used 20KHz in place of 10, but too much heterodynes and hash were found sounding bad.

But IF trafos are usual double tuned units of the K-Trans brand.
