A Historic Inaguration

Who thinks that ALL stations, no matter what format they are, should carry at least a portion on Obama's inaguration. I think they should. There may never be one quite as historic.

God Bless Our Country!

i don't know - again, i think it depends on the demo... 8)

I'm sure if Condaleesa Rice was being inaugurated you wouldn't feel the same way. Im sure our news talker in Dayton and Cincy's WLW will provide coverage.

Why would you say that? A black female President would be even more historic.

If Hillary was being inaugurated, I would feel the same. First female.....

If McCain were becoming President, I would already be on my way to Canada.

It's NOT about HOW i feel, it's a matter of the demographic - in New York, probably WLIB will go heavy on coverage, 'BLS and WRKS will be in the mix as well, and the two ALL-news stations (WCBS 880 and 1010 WINS) will have people ALL OVER THE PLACE on it. As far as the other NY stations are concerned...it will get mentioned, acknowledged - but not heavy heavy heavy....

Ain't gonna happen, for a number of reasons:

1. There are a LOT of stations who don't have the rights to access a news feed.

2. The inauguration rarely runs on schedule. How would the automation know when to switch to coverage? Hard to program that ahead of time.

3. People who WANT to hear the inauguration will know where to tune. People who don't care will want alternative entertainment.

4. Obama's inauguration is historic, but the order of magnitude that you're giving to it is - in my opinion - beyond reason. Talk about setting expectations that no one could possibly live up to...

National pride is important, and I'm right there with you on that idea, but you cannot shove these kinds of things down people's throats. A lot of people were disappointed in the outcome of this election, and it had nothing to do with the fact that the winning candidate is African-American or anything else. Broadcasting the inauguration on every station won't--and shouldn't--happen in a free society. It is an insult to those who have no interest in the political or historical value of the event.

I respect and understand the historical value behind this inauguration.

But, all the points mentioned here are valid. Many stations have no "network" to get it from. Sadly, many listeners to music stations, frankly, couldn't care less about a President's inauguration (though they should). (That's why, after voting, some people were caught not being able to identify that the Democrats were the ruling party in the Congress last year). Those listeners want to hear another "10, 12, 15 in a row". They're not political types, sadly.

Barack Obama's ascension to the Presidency will be covered by all major TV and a number of cable networks, the internet, news-talk and newsradio stations. I even understand Rush Limbaugh will carry the inaugural address without comment until after it's over.

I agree with a previous poster. All inaugurations are historical. Including this one. As it should be.

If you want to carry coverage and don't have a network, contact a local TV station and arrange for the rights to re-broadcast their audio. They will love you and so will the A.E. at your station who handles their business.

Not so fast. You'll be rebroadcasting NETWORK audio, and it won't be either easy or quick to get rights to that.

It's extremely easy to do. TV stations have stock forms from their networks. I've done it many times during severe weather. Even did it on short notice on 9/11 with an NBC O&O.

Yeah...you can make a deal with a TV station to rebroadcast their audio. But the TV station doesn't have permission to allow you to rebroadcast network audio...and that could put you in a precarious position if the network finds out about it. You're supposed to get permission from the network before you air their programming.

Don't forget, nearly 47% of the country DIDN'T vote for him. So as it may be historic, it's not viewed as exciting to all as it is to you. Listeners who want coverage are going to find it, and may go away from your station even if you carry it. Why drive away those who don't care?

If you really want the audio, there's probably a way to get it. That having been said, not everyone wants to listen to it. Network TV is going to be wall to wall all day.
