A Historical Day In Seattle Radio

I wish Stern luck in his new endeavor on Sirius. BJ Shea was on with Ricker right after Stern taking unscreened phone calls from listeners. Howard & Company's speeches were great. I've been recording since 6:00 this morning. Alot of good stuff on KISW this morning. This is from just a longtime listener of Seattle radio checking in.
______________

It was a great show, and all of the past few days have been excellent too. Whether you like him or you don't, you have to give him credit for the show he created and all the folks who helped him build it.

I'm proud of KISW for not taking the low road and removing his show when so many other affiliates did. They let him go out in style, and the fact that BJ came in and spent time with Ricker to take calls and give Howard credit means a lot in my book. Great job Howard and crew, and many thanks to KISW.

I agree with both of you. The torch has officially been passed to BJ. His band of crazy kooks are going to light up Seattle mornings for years to come. A new group of listeners can hear what this veteran radio man is all about.

Pooper is it possible you work for BJ? Besides the fact that 95% of your previous posts are about him, I believe this thread had to do with the impact Howard has had on the air, how enjoyable his shows were over the past few days, as well as kudos to KISW for not dropping him like other affiliates. I think thats what the original poster meant by "A historical day", not that your veteran radio co-worker and his crazy kooks were taking over.

Unfortunately, I missed Howard's show. I did, however, hear BJ on with Ricker. It was interesting how he blamed the Buzz's demise on "the feminazi bitches", like Christine Gregoire and Hillary Clinton, and the "right wing fundamentalists", who want to control the gov't. Interesting to see those two grouped together.

Howard has had the same kind of impact on radio that Johnny Carson had on late night TV. On a local scale, KISW has passed the "morning radio torch" to BJ Shea. I wish BJ and his people luck. The guy deserves it. No, I don't work for BJ, KISW, or Entercom. I'm just a dedicated listener. What Ricker and BJ did following Howard's show was interesting. Dave "Sgt. Hairclub" Richards briefly joined them on the air. I give KISW props for sticking with Stern to the end. There's a reason why that station has stayed on the air for nearly 35 years.
______________

I agree with you. KISW is a wonderful station and they did the right thing. But I can't help but wonder if they stuck with Howard because of the Ad revenue he brought in. If they had dumped him months ago, wouldn't their morning rating have taken a dump down turd ally? In any event, they now have BJ to make sure the high listener ratings keep chugging along like a dependable old friend.

Ad revenue=$$$. To quote Johnny Carson(a former radio announcer), "A dollar is always a dollar." Not only is Howard a broadcaster, he's also a bussinessman. I have a feeling that the $500 million he's going to get over the next five years may also involve a partial promotion to management on Sirius.
______________

The $500 million is the total budget for his show - everyone he hires gets paid out of that money, so basically it's up to him how much of it he wants to keep for himself. Anyone want to guess what he's paying Robin, Gary, Fred and the rest who have been with him since the beginning - now that he is directly determining their salaries for the first time?
