Happy Birthday to Hot97Boston ( Hot 87.7 former 97.5 ) . I LOVE THIS STATION !!!

Why can't the FCC use axes and armed marshals like they did when they busted Alan Weiner on the Sarah way back when in the 80's? Every time I'm in Boston and spin the dial, I long for that type of enforcement.

Really makes me want to go there and fire up a 3kw transmitter on 87.7 playing opera...

FCC may give you a fine for blocking a Pirate station . FCC is LAME ! PIRATE STATIONS RULES !

Hard that station (87.7) well in Northern Rhode Island and in Southern New Hampshire (Haampton) on the car radio this past week. How many thousands of watts are they pumping?

I would venture about 500 to 1000 watts (effective radiated power), similar coverage like WMBR (88.1). Why they are running 87.75 MHz instead of 87.7 MHz really beats me. Betcha they got an aural exciter from a former analog TV Channel 6 station who didn't have any further use for said device. I'm rather amazed that they are still out there clear as day, selling ads, covering the market like they had a license (which they DON'T). I'm surprised 'MBR hasn't complained yet.

Well, Allan Weiner had the mistaken idea that by dropping anchor beyond 3 miles off the coast of Long Island, he was "technically" outside of US territory. (He would have to be 12 miles off the coast, but by then he would be in violation of International Treaties). In any instance, what he did back then was a BIG NO-NO. But, he is now the proud owner of a fully-licensed Shortwave facility, WBCQ ("The Planet") in good old Monticello, Maine USA. His story is fascinating, to say the least..... a big shortwave success story, nonetheless.

As for the current "occupant" on 87.75 in Boston..... it ain't gonna happen.

If WMBR is going to complain about something, WMBR should complain about all these FCC legal stations that are now on 88.1 in R.I. . I used to pickup WMBR easy on the MA/R.I. border. Now I have a hard time picking up WMBR in Stoughton MA.

Do you have any understanding of protected contours?

Just because you CAN get a signal at point Y, doesn't mean it has to be interference free there.

Here is their theoretical coverage map, for WMBR http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WMBR&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

And here is the same map for WELH Providence http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WELH&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

Do you notice their fringe areas overlap? Fringe is not protected, so if you look at WMBR they run out of leash right about on the far end of Norwood. Anything after that is a gift.

I'd love to hear 104.9 WBOQ in Boston, but that pesky Northeastern University flea powered station has the rights to that part of the spectrum, not that that means anything to someone that supports people throwing up a antenna and broadcasting on any frequency they want.

I'd rather see WRBB, a 19 watt class D, get to move onto an expanded FM band if it ever happens and open up 104.9 for WBOQ to upgrade. The question would then be would they allow a low power FM on second adjacent to 88.1, and would the FCC finally shut down the illegal operation on 87.7(5)

Yeah, FCC don't know what the hell they are doing. Puttin' a station on 100.3 in New York City and Philly, make 100.3 signal a total Trash in N.J. . 106.3 signal is TRASH in Boston (Great station Hot 106 R.I. and that Garbage in N.H. ). East coast radio spacing is a total joke .

Just out of curiosity, why do you consider WFNQ to be "Garbage"? Because it's a legal station? Or because it plays music you don't like?

That Trash in N.H. was a good station back in the 90's when it was CHR/pop station. Now 106.3 NO D J's = TRASH RADIO ! I HATE Ipod RADIO !

my SONY walkman locks onto HOT97 so cant get WMBR, cuz AFC likes high powered pirates!

true fact: hot97 pushes my Yamaha recievers meter further to the right than WGBH

I think you will find that WFNQ has a pretty good staff of ON AIR personalities, including Sarah Sullivan in AM drive.

They are far from IPOD radio

106.3 and 107.5 are almost a simulcast. Open up both websites and look at the playlists. The DJ's are different but the music is the same. It may not be iPod radio but it looks like it could be voicetracked. And I agree with Rapking WHOB was a great station.

Look at the playlists for WFNQ and WFNK cause they are the same! They are about one song off from each other at all times how boring. RIP WHOB, miss those days as well.

all of nassua's frank stations are the same, 105.5 mid coast maine is the same as the WFNK and WFNQ.
ALL GARBAGE !!!!!!

Hot 87.7 is doing Memorial day Master Mix Weekend and its sounding GREAT !!!

best (worse) is the "what are you an idiot?" section where the 2 sisters read bossip stories and then comment on them

"youre broadcasting on 87 but call yourself 97"

"youre broadcasting on 87.75 so people not listening on a TV are getting inferior reception"

"you didnt even put your antenna up high so youre wasting tons of electricity to achieve what 100 (or even 5) watts could do"

"...what are you, an idiot?
