A. J. Lindsey, "Doc Holiday/Emperor Holiday", KAAY R.I.P. 1941-2009

Former deejay and Program Director A. J. Lindsey passed away after a short illness May 17, 2009. He will be greatly missed.

BTW, ALL are invited to join us at the new KAAY blogspot!

http://mighty1090kaay.blogspot.com/

This is in continuance of A. J. Lindsey's old blogspot, after he passed away in May...and we'll be referring to his blogspot from time to time:

As we all know, some things on the Internet tend to be lost if the bills aren't paid, so several of us listeners, former deejays and programmers have made the effort to preserve the history and audio that was KAAY back in it's Top 40 and Beaker Street heyday!

Please join us, drop us a comment and enjoy! If you have ANY information you'd like to offer, join us, leave a comment, or e-mail me at:

Thank you, see you there!

I remember KAAY as a good sounding Top 40. Could be heard in Pittsburgh and Richmond. I was a bit surprised when riding through the area around 1968 . I was used to stations that were Top 40 24/7 like KQV and WLEE. It seemed odd to hear them go religious over-nights. I wondered what young people like myself ( young in 1968) did for music after the format switch at 11 PM or Midnight? I wondered if Little Rock might have another Top 40, maybe on the higher end of the band that was a dedicated Top 40? Did they?

MsMusicRadio,

Good questions! We now have a resident historian who could answer those questions...would you care to drop me a note at my e-mail address above and I'll forward it to him, and, with your permission, add the question and comment(s) to the blog?

Arkansas radio history is what we're looking for, as well, not just that of KAAY and Beaker Street, so all comments along that vein are welcome.

As for the switch in format, it didn't happen until 4/3/1985; that's when it went over to it's new religion-based owner, so I suppose the format change you mentioned was when Beaker Street came on the air, with ab album oriented, heavy rock format. Needless to say, KAAY worked with both a religious and secular format, at all times of the day, so maybe you heard something on late at night...which was entirely possible!

Write to me, looking forward to sending your material to the blog!
