The Rules:
1)You can't post a response if you aren't using a name known as a legitimate handle (read, someone who doesn't "blow smoke"), or can't point to a website proving you are a real flesh and blood person
2)Don't turn the question around and make it about me. Ya got TWO threads on this board already to play that
game. Disrupting the thread will only prove you don't have a valid point of view.
Background: Some on this board believe that Oedipus (Ed Hyson, former WBCN Program Director) was a radio giant when he ruled the 104.1 signal. Others believe he was a man of little talent who was installed by
Mel Karmazin to be the "hatchet man" to cut payroll.
Oevidence: Few of the men and women Oedipus hired have gone on to become industry legends the way
Charles Laquidara, Matty in the Morning, Dale Dorman and other icons have survived the many changes in radio.
In fact, it would be hard to name a disc jockey Oedipus brought up from WMBR or WFNX that had any lasting power beyond their stint with CBS radio. God love 'em Albert O, Bradley J, Tracy Roach, Juanita The Scene Queen were all competent, but they didn't go into syndication a la Opie & Anthony, Howard Stern, or the new wave of talk radio - the Rush Limbaugh / Bill O'Reilly / Ed Schultz / Randi Rhoads people with national airtime.
If Oedipus was so important and vital to Boston radio, why hasn't Clear Channel picked him up?
Why not let him run the Country Station at Greater Media. Fact is, if Loren & Wally could do Country,
and Oedipus is equal to or a bigger legend in Boston radio than L & W, why shouldn't he take over the new Country station that takes the place of WCRB on the dial?
Or the FNX Radio Network. If Oedipus was so good at finding talent at 101.7, wouldn't he be the logical choice to run the FNX Radio Network?
a)it would be a challenge
b)It would show us that he's got what it truly takes
This is a valid question. People have gone on and on and on about my resume and demanding to know what year I wrote for Billboard and what year The Boston Globe published me and what year my third album came out in the Benelux countries along with France, The U.K., Germany etc., etc. I have responded to all the Swifties - BUT - as many have stated - I'M NOT IN BOSTON RADIO.
Oedipus is...or was. The Oedipus Foundation is all well and good. Why has Mel Karmazin not picked up the phone and called his Golden Boy. I don't want to hear he has "retired". Soon he will be 58 years of age - if he is so talented, it can't be age discrimination.
Arnie Woo Woo Ginsburg, John Garabedian, Little Walter, all the legends got hired and fired and hired again.
They all got major gigs time and time again, Woo Woo & John H got V-66, John H has the House Party,
Walter is probably the #1 mastering engineer in the world for 50's music. And he's still on the radio.
Oedipus has only had one commercial radio gig that we know of where, my God, even I've been on more commercial radio than Oedipus! And it is only my hobby.
There ya go. Fair question. Real people with answers, not changing the subject back to me, are welcome to respond.
Thank you. What has Oedipus done for us lately? He is "Mr. Boston Radio" according to many on this alleged "radio" board.
