A little more on NBC and Martha Stewart

I saw this today:

NBC daytime exec Sheraton Kalouria will leave the network to join Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. as president of television. Kalouria had been NBC Universal's senior vp daytime programs. His new job will entail responsibility for MSLO's TV unit, which includes Stewart's new syndicated daytime talk show, "Everyday Food" on PBS, and "Petkeeping With Marc Morrone." The company said he also will develop programming on cable, broadcast and syndication.

Speaking of which, just to state the obvious, NBC Daytime is pretty weak right now.

NBC Daytime

Hi everyone:

> Speaking of which, just to state the obvious, NBC Daytime is
> pretty weak right now.

Well...I think this is attributed to the fact that many NBC affiliates (and even their O&Os) would just assume rely heavily on syndie fare beyond the Today Show simply because it's cheaper for NBC and the stations get better revenue right now off the syndie stuff than they do from "Days Of Our Lives" or "Passions".

That said though, I've been thinking.

Given how CBS has pretty much treated and trashed Proctor & Gamble Productions dating back (at least) the late 1980s when Bill Bell's "The Bold & The Beautiful" became the mega success it enjoys today (To say nothing of CBS' current stake in Bell Productrions), it AMAZES me that NBC Universal hasn't capitalized on this by going after P&G Productions and forming a similar partnership.

Heck even back when "As The World Turns" AND "Guiding Light" were both struggling in 2001, they didn't budge. And before that, they axed the long-running "Another World" from the lineup back in 1999.

How much does anyone here wanna bet NBC is regretting that move back in '99?

Dare I say this, but I think that had they hung on to AW & capitalized on this back in '01 (they still can, though it just won't have the pizzazz it otherwise would've), NBC could've built an empire around "Another World", "Guiding Light" and "As The World Turns" as well as maybe one or two new shows (or simply let "Passions" be that fourth show in the lineup).

Of course, this would've meant dealing "Days Of Our Lives" to CBS, but what the heck? It's produced by Bell Productions anyway.

Thoughts anyone?

Cheers for now :)
______________

Radio? Uhh.....What's THAT?? :)

Re: NBC Daytime

Hmm, that is an interesting theory, but I doubt it would have worked though. As The World Turns and Guiding Light are still struggling with the latest budget cuts. NBC has let a crazy man write both of it's soaps, causing both to be former shells of itself.

One other thing, I read Another World was supposed be the spin-off of As The World Turns, but since CBS didn't have room on the schedule, it aired on Another World.

Actually "Days Of Our Lives" was created by the late Ted Corday(His Corday Productions is part of Sony). Bill Bell was one of the headwriters during the show's early years.
